When it was time to go to Transfiguration, Draco and Hermione set out through the halls. Ron and Harry where Merlin-knows-where, and Hermione refused to be late. To be honest, Draco really didn't blame her. Professor McGonagall could be intimidating when she wanted to be, and Draco didn't exactly want to test his luck with her either.

The two of them found the classroom with ten minutes to spare and grabbed two seats up front. There was a cat with markings like spectacles around its eyes sitting on Professor McGonagall's desk. It seemed to be watching him in particular.

"Why do you think there's a cat here?" Draco asked Hermione.

"If I'm not mistaken, that's Professor McGonagall," Hermione told him.

"Really?" He looked back to the cat. It looked almost amused now.

"Really. She's an Animagus."

The cat meowed, and with a leap off the desk became Professor McGonagall.

"You were not mistaken, Miss Granger," she told them, with a smirk at Draco's gobsmacked expression. "Actually, I am rather glad the two of you are the first ones here. Draco, as you have been disowned, which last name would you like to take on?"

Draco blanched. He had forgotten he needed a new last name now.

"I don't know, Professor. What names could I take?"

McGonagall frowned. "Well, you could take your ex-mother's maiden name; you could, with permission, take on your Aunt's married name and possibly be adopted by her; or, you could take on the name of the family you are staying with and possibly be adopted by them."

Draco thought about his options. It would make the most sense to use the maiden name. He couldn't be a Weasley. He wasn't that changed yet.

"I guess I'll be a Black - for now," he added on quickly. After all, he still planned on finding his Aunt. For now though, he'd rather not have to deal with any legal situations.
Professor McGonagall nodded. She eyed the door, where voices where coming closer, and put a finger to her lips with a wink. In an instant, Professor McGonagall was a cat again, which leapt back up onto the desk and sat as she was previously.

Draco and Hermione looked at each other with a smirk as the other students all questioned the presence of a cat in the room. Then Draco glanced around and frowned. Where were Harry and Ron? Why weren't they here yet? Did they get lost? In trouble?
Why do you care about blood traitor scum anyways? A voice in his head scolded. It sounded like his ex-father. Because they care about me more than you, Draco shot back. Of course, then he realized he was talking to himself, and was starting to question his sanity when finally, finally, Harry and Ron ran in, roughly five minutes late. Draco restrained from laughing when they sighed in relief at the sight of a cat and no teacher. He was not, however, able to restrain himself from laughing at their gobsmacked expressions when the cat became Professor McGonagall. He saw Ron shoot him a dirty look as he sat down.

Transfiguration over, he and Hermione led Ron and Harry to Charms. Draco felt proud of himself when the feather lifted off the table, but then he saw Hermione's all the way up near the ceiling, and dropped his in defeat.

"Hey, it's alright, you just have your wrist slightly twisted, see?"

Hermione adjusted his wrist, and he tried again, this time sending the feather much farther up, not quite reaching Hermione's, but still up there.

"Well done, Miss Granger and Mister Black!" exclaimed the Professor. Draco felt himself start to slip into his 'superior' attitude at the praise, and even snickered a little when Hermione told Ron he was saying it wrong. He wondered if his entire personality would have to change. Was it okay to feel better than someone else if they can't do something? According to what he had been raised as, yes, but Draco was now inclined to question everything he had been taught morally up until this point.
