Ch 15: Lo Siento

Kane sits forward. "Wait! Mocha Loca's Toni? Fine a**, big booty Toni with the dimples? Toni that's older than him by more than five years, Toni? What...where was I?"

"I don't know. You live down the block from him." He says with a shrug.

"How do you know and I don't?"

"Easy. I'm his favorite."

"No you're not."

"Yes, I am. Ask him."

"Ayo Gabe!"

"What?!" He hears from the other room.

"Whose you're favorite brother?"

"Daniel."

"Muthah F-"

Daniel laughs in the other line. "I told you."

"Why?!" He yells back.

Gabe leans in the door frame, so he doesn't have to yell from the other room. "Because you always eat my food. And you always hid my toys, locked me in the closet, and tortured me as a kid."

"I'm your oldest brother. I did the same thing to Daniel. I'm supposed to do those things. It's in the unwritten Santiago sibling contract."

"Well, Daniel never did those things."

"Because he was too busy being our mom." He grumbles.

Gabe deadpans. "Exactly why he's my favorite."

"But, I was fulfilling my obligation as your brother."

"And I love you for it. But, D is still my favorite. Which reminds me. Put him on speaker."

Kane puts him on speaker, shaking his head.

"D. Safe word."

He sits back in thought. "Checkmate."

"Checkmate?" Kane scoffs. "Typical."

"What do YOU want it to be, since checkmate is so typical?"

"I don't know." He thinks and smiles. "Look Black in the eyes with a smile and say. 'My name, is Daniel Silva-Santiago'. But wait a beat before you say Santiago. And draw that sh** out, so they know they fu**ed up."

Gabe and Daniel both laugh.

"Tell me that's not lit. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when you say it. They'll probably piss their pants." Kane says chuckling. "I want a copy of the tape."

Gabe rests a hand on Kane's shoulder. "That was a sentence." He shakes his head. "Maybe we should send him back to school D."

Daniel laughs.

Kane pushes Gabe. "Shut up. Mine is better than some basic 'checkmate'."

"Whatever. Safe phrase then. No watching Gabe."

"Fu** that! You're my brother. I'm watching. Plus, if I need to act fast because some sh** goes sideways, I can work my magic."

Daniel exhales slowly to calm himself. "Aight. I have to go. They should be here soon. Three days."

"Three days?! Are you insane?!" Gabe yells. "You're going to let them torture you for three days?! FU** THAT D!"

Daniel exhales, rubbing his temple. "You do remember that before you came along, I was Kane's guinea pig right? If I can survive nine years of that, three days with Black is a piece of cake. Don't worry. Just keep an eye on Alexis. Remember the signal."

He frowns, but agrees anyways. "Will do." Gabe says.

"That sounds like my escort has arrived. See you guys soon." He ends the call. He then picks up the electronic GPS pill on his desk, activates it and swallows it.
