I keep to myself, not wanting to talk to anyone.

Everyone else, though, seems like they're social butterflies.

A voice snaps me out of my trance. "Okay! Start!"

Heh?

So sudden.

I run towards the city-looking place, involuntarily getting caught in the crowd.

I hiss in pain, everyone is pushing and their elbows are jabbing into me. I still have a few bruises left on my torso.

I stray away from the crowd, running around the buildings.

Then, a 2-Pointer appears from the corner, scaring the shit out of me.

I lift my arms a bit and wind rushes towards it, my hair flowing.

The robot's parts start to fall off, falling apart.

I cheer a bit. I actually immobilized it!

I continue my search to land a spot in the hero course.
.

"...I..I'm tired...f..fifty-three..." I pant. I've already started to feel dizzy.

"Less than two minutes!"

Panic rises in me. I sure hope fifty-three points is enough..

I push myself to keep running, even though my chest is burning.

Even though the battle center are a bit far away from each other, I hear a loud crash that definitely didn't come from here.

I charge at a 1-Pointer and punch it, using wind to help me.

It's falling apart.

That's all I needed.

"Time's up!!"

I drop to my knees, panting, tired, and nauseas. I take a few minutes to catch my breath. Man, I really did go overboard.
.

"[Name]! [Name]! You're back!" Haru's eyes lit up.

"Yeah, I am." I smile and kneel down to ruffle his [hair color] hair.

I take off my shoes while Haru watches intently.

"What's so interesting? My shoes?" I tease and he shakes his head.

"Did you get in?" He asks, practically bouncing.

"No. I'll get the results soon. It'll be in the mail, so keep an eye out, okay?" I say softly.

"Mh-hm!"

I smile at him, then I look at the new scar by his ear.

"H-Haru...did...did he do this?" I ask slowly.

"I-I fell---"

"Haruto!"

"Yeah. He did..."

I can already feel tears of anger well up in my eyes.

"Please don't be mad." He says, and I give him a shocked look.

"Why would I be mad?" My voice cracked, I'm already tearing up. I throw my arms around him. Haru begins shaking.

"Where's Mom?" I ask gently.

"She-she's in the kitchen." He sniffles.

"Did he do anything to her?"

He slowly nods. We sit there for a while, enjoying the peace. While it lasts, at least.

I hear footsteps, definitely not my mom. Too heavy to be her.

I pull away. "Listen to me. Go to a friend's house. What's the girl's name---Airi? Go to her house. If she or her mom asks, you have permission. Go now." I instruct.

He nods, then giving me a salute, a dumb thing we do.

I do the same and wait for my father.

Kanazawa Airi. She's a really nice girl. So is her mother. Sometimes, I get the feeling her mom knows our situation, that's why she welcomes us. Or I'm being paranoid. Either way, Airi's mom, Yume, is nice by nature.

I hear the door slam, and I wait for the beast to get here.

Thump, thump, thump.

That doesn't sound normal.

The sound continues till it comes to a stop.

Slowly, I lift my head and and I really wish I didn't.

He's got my mom by her hair.

"I-Is she... dead?" I whisper.

You know, looking back, that was one of the best and worst days ever.

Something snapped in my father. I still, to this day, have no idea what ticked him off so much.

My Mom and I, we ended up in the hospital. She was to stay overnight. I had to get stitches and bandages wrapped around my head. My brother was safe, and I don't regret making him go to a friend's house.

I regret not saying anything.
