I sat on the floor by the door for a long time. I don't know how long. It must have been a while because when Raftar left it was morning but now the sun looked like it was setting. I was alone at home. Mum and Dad had left for work and my sister was over at a friend's house.

Puffy red eyes, traces of my dried tears on my cheeks, lost and numb. That's how mum found me when she returned.

"Dani ! My girl what happened ?" I must have looked like a mess, the shock was evident on her face.

"He left Mom. He left. Without a backward glance."

That brought out a fresh set of tears. I thought i had no more but guess what, they never run out, the tears.

Mom helped me off the floor and gathered me in her arms as i clung to her like my lifeline.
"Shhhh Dani. We are here for you. Don't cry my baby. We will figure it out together, we all love you.But for now i need you stop crying sweetheart, please. It hurts me to see you like this."

I went up to my room where mum gave me a bowl of soup because i felt too sick to eat. I stayed in my room that night when Dad returned. I didn't go down for dinner because i did not want to see Dad. I didn't want to tell him what happened because Dad would surely have gone after Raftar and beaten him to a pulp. I couldn't subject Raftar to that.

Raftar ..... just the thought of him was enough to trigger the tears again. For someone who hardly ever gets emotional, this was a lot for me.

I called him, maybe a thousand times but it kept going to voicemail. I felt pathetic , so low.
I couldn't get through to him so i called Kareem. When he answered he sounded anxious.
"Dani what's going on ?Raftar came home a little while back in a fit of rage. I have never seen him this way. When i asked him what the matter was he just said one word- Danielle. "

"We got into a fight. It was more like a misunderstanding."

"Are you okay Dani? You don't sound too good."

" I'll be fine Kareem. I just have to talk to him but he just won't answer my calls."

"I don't think now is a good time Dani. I just managed to convince him to sleep because after his temper tantrum he did something i have never seen him do since we were kids. He cried."

I sucked in a breath when i heard that. Raftar was hurting. He was in pain. I wanted to relieve it if only he would just let me.

"What did he say ?"

"He just kept repeating the same thing over and over again - Kareem don't fall in love. Don't fall for them, they are all the same, every single one of them and Dani is no better."

I slept that night with a resolve to meet him and try to get him to talk to me and clear things out.

Kareem promised to keep me updated. I didn't explain the situation to him yet he stood by me. I was grateful for that. After spending long hours thinking over the turn of events that occurred yesterday night i finally managed to sleep.

The next morning when i woke up i turned to check the time. I had overslept ! It was 10 am.My alarm never rang because my phone was dead. Probably out of charge. After leaving it to charge,i took a shower and dressed quickly to go meet Raftar.

After a rushed breakfast i headed straight to Raftar and Kareem's house.They lived in a house closer to the college campus along with their two younger sisters Samira and Nina.

On foot it took me a few minutes to reach. Once there i stopped and stared at the house. I suddenly felt my confidence dwindle, my palms grew sweaty while my heart began to beat at a hundred miles per minute. I was apprehensive and scared. Scared that he would reject me.

I finally drew courage and knocked on the door. Nina opened it looking very anxious and her expression told me that she was expecting someone other than me.

"Oh gosh Danielle ! Did you meet Kareem ?"

My brow creased in confusion. "Kareem ? No. Why ? What is the matter ? You look worried."

"Kareem tried calling you multiple times but your phone was switched off."

"Yea sorry. It ran out of charge during the night."

Her expression of sadness and the pity in her eyes did not do anything to help my already anxious state. "What's the matter Nina ?"

"Raftar left Danielle, he left. He has gone back to Umerah."

I felt as if the ground had been swept from under my feet.
"Gone ? Gone back ! Already !"

"Yes, i am sorry Danielle. Kareem tried his best to stop him but he wouldn't listen. Kareem just left a few minutes back to meet you and tell you this.
I found a letter on Raftar's dresser addressed to you."

She handed me the letter that i took with shaking hands. No chance for an explanation. Raftar had actually truly gone, leaving me behind with just a letter.
