Chapter 27:

Alicia looked around nervously through the bouncing gowns and silver suits. She walked up to Chelsea and asked, "Where's Michael and Willow?"

Chelsea smirked, "Bet you they're making out somewhere."

Alicia rolled her eyes, "Like Michael would ever do that."

Chelsea knocked her gently on the arm, "You never know, the 'sexist pig control freak' is gone, anything could happen."

"Not that she should have a say in anything. That hypocrite thinks she can go around and tell him what to do, when she does it herself!"

"Alicia! Shh." Chelsea hissed, dropping her voice. "We're gonna get killed."

Alicia rolled her eyes, again. "He's got eight years before they care." She said, but, in fact did drop her voice an octave lower. You never know, they were in the central HQ, and people around here probably won't as at ease about the situation as people in RiverPlain.

It personally annoyed Alicia that they would care so much. He had eight years before the trouble came, so what if he wanted to be with Willow? She had a 999/1000 chance of dying next month, anyway. It wasn't as if the idiot sexist pig didn't do things herself.

Alicia caught a flash of black and blonde, there they were. Willow was wearing a different dress, which couldn't help but put a sly smile on Alicia's face. As soon as they joined her she said with a bark of laughter, "See you didn't enjoy the dress I gave you." Willow had switched from her blue dress, to a dark red one that wasn't half as beautiful as the blue on had been.

Michael rolled his eyes, knowing exactly what her smirk stood for. "We were attacked, by Carevevs."

That caught Chelsea's attention. "Carevevs? What were they doing at a party like this?" They all knew what Chelsea meant, Carevevs were smarter than Bolesgire. They knew not to trash a party where all (well, almost all) Ganashes are at. It was stupid, it was suicide. Alicia noticed they were being attacked a lot more, lately. It was as if the Carevevs and Bolesgire were getting bolder, or were determined.

Michael shrugged, "Don't know." It was at that precise moment that James Hev came up and tapped Willow on the shoulder.

"May I ask the pretty lady for a dance?" He asked. She saw Michael stiffen ever so slightly. Alicia glanced at Michael's very annoyed expression, and she couldn't help but smile. It was funny to see him be jealous, it was unusual.

Willow looked at James in surprise, as if she had never had been asked a question like that.

"Uh," Willow said, glancing down at the hand he extended towards her. "Sure." She grabbed it hesitantly and James walked her off to the dance floor.

Michael leaned back against a wall, not taking his eyes off of the two of them. Alicia laughed and leaned against the wall next to him and said, "Not used to being jealous, are we?"

Michael briefly glanced away and toward Alicia, "Jealous? No, I am just making sure he doesn't take advantage of her."

Alicia rolled her eyes, "You call that protection, I call it jealousy." Michael just twisted his mouth a little, but didn't respond. "So, what did the two of you do?" She asked, looking for a good piece of gossip. She had always had a thing for forbidden love, and to her, it would be the most romantic thing for them to fall in love.

He shrugged, "I just showed her around the garden, showed her the star gazing  rock."

Alicia's widened in joy, "You took her star seeing! That's so romantic-"

Michael cut her one glance and Alicia snapped her mouth closed. Chelsea came up laughing at their facial expressions, "Haha, I see I have come into something interesting. Now children, what did I say about fighting in public?"

"Michael started it." She returned the sarcasm.

"So, what did you and Willow do?" Chelsea directed the question toward Michael.

Michael gave out an exasperated breath, "We did nothing!"

"He showed her around the garden and then took her star gazing!" Alicia gushed. Chelsea's eyes widened considerably, and she glanced at Michael to see if it was true.

Michael shook his head, "Why are all of you so obsessed with me and Willow?"

"We're not obsessed," Alicia inquired. "Just curious. This is so new to us, to see you falling for a girl."

"I am not falling for Willow." Michael said, not meeting eye contact with either of them. "Sure, I like her more than most people, but I am not falling for her."

"Whatever you say." A broad grin was appearing across Alicia's face. It was nice, to see Michael finally be a boy. Finally, have some kind of interest toward any girl. He was always half awake when it came to women, never truly caring or noticing. Alicia was getting a kick that he was finally seeing a girl. It gave kick to all of them.

She remembered, when Michael was fifteen, and she teased him of having no hormones. And for a moment, she truly believed he didn't have hormones.

But, of course, being in Michael's situation, she could understand why he ignored girls around him. She felt bad for him, not just a little feeling of pity. It was an all out pain for him. It just wasn't fair, especially not to someone like Michael.

It was, as it seems, always the good people who ended having the worst lives. She felt like God was spitting on the ones that worked hard. Not that she really had a religion. Some things about religion sounded good; why not live a life full of helping people and being kind? But, some things just felt wrong. Why would Michael, out of all people, be dammed that way? Why was Chelsea, one of the kindest people she had ever met, be dying?

Thinking about Chelsea gave Alicia a kick in the stomach. They didn't dwell on the fact that she had Mensia, an UnderWorld sickness. They didn't dwell on the fact, that sometime soon, the sickness she was born with would kick in and she would die slowly. They didn't dwell on it.

They all thought, that if they dwelled on death so much, they would forget to live. It may take years before the Mensia would kick in, and it may days. Or, it may not happen at all.

Why was it the evil stood, when goodness fell? Why was it the wicked laughed, while the innocent cried?

Here Alicia stood, someone who had never been good. Someone who lied and stole, and cheated and got angry be fine? Be on her own two feet? But, here they stood, Michael dammed for an eternity, and Chelsea dying. While Alicia, was just fine.

Alicia slouched against the walls, they had one corrupted group, that was for sure.
