Yu-Gi-Oh! The Phoenix Goddess (Atem x OC)

Chapter 1

Confused, that's what Ruby felt when she first arrived from her home to Domino city, luckily Kaiba took pity on her and adopted her before he died, without telling Seto and Mokuba.

"Come on! You never let me leave the house on my own, I can take care of myself" a red haired girl says and she adds "Plus I might be able to make some friends", Seto sighs and says "Fine, but be back by dinnertime". Ruby hugs him before leaving and she hums a song as she walks past different places to see Yugi and his friends chatting "Hey guys!" she calls as she runs over and Téa waves "Hey, I see you finally got out of the house without a bodyguard" she says earning a nod from the red head "It was about time too" Ruby says and she sighs "He's so protective over me" she says and her eyes land on the millennium puzzle and she smiles slightly "Anyway what are you guys doing?" she asks and feels a presence she can't see "We were planning to go to the museum to refresh the Pharaoh's memories, well hopefully" Yugi says causing Ruby to tilt her head, she couldn't see the spirit without her millennium item, not that she would tell the group "I want to come along" she says and they head off.

At the museum Ruby is taking her time reading the tablets "You know how to read that?" Yugi asks and Ruby says "I studied." "Really? What does it say?" Joey asks and Ishizu walks over "That the Pharaoh had a guardian, the sun goddess, otherwise known in Egypt as the phoenix goddess." she says and Ruby tilts her head "Then if you find her you can restore more of Pharaoh's memories." Yugi concludes, but Ishizu says "She hasn't been seen for a long time, some say she lost while battling a great darkness and some say she died protecting the pharaoh." Ishizu says and no one notices Ruby putting a hand on her shoulder "But the next tablet says she'll always protect the pharaoh, that she'll watch over him forever." Ruby points out and Yugi says "I'll ask him when I get home." He and his friends walk on so Ishizu asks "Why are you in this form?" "It was the right one, can't exactly walk around as my normal self," Ruby says "Luckily Seth had patched me up, but my shoulder isn't fully healed." "I see," Ishizu says and she looks at Yugi "You need to tell him." After a while Ruby realized the time and said goodbye while heading home "Had fun?" Seto asks and Ruby smiles "I went to the museum with Yugi and his friends," she says and adds "And I took the time to read those old egyptian tablets." "Ah yes, something you never do otherwise." Seto says. Ruby heads to her room after dinner and she looks at her bracelet and necklace.

-flashback-

"I'm sorry Ruby." a young pharaoh says holding the young goddess in a hug "I'll always watch over you, I can wait," she says and she adds "But you're not going in alone!" "I understand, please watch over Egypt in my place if you survive." "I understand Atem, please be careful." Ruby mumbles before the two face off against Zork "I only hope he'll be sealed away, forever." Atem says.

-end flashback-

Ruby turns to the door when she hears someone gasp "Yugi!" she says and quickly puts her stuff away "That looked familiar." a new voice says, a voice Ruby knows all too well "I assure you Yami, you saw enough," she says and she turns to him, only to have him suddenly in front of her "Uh... can I help you?" she asks and Yami narrows his eyes as he looks into Ruby's eyes. "Who are you and why do you have stuff that belongs to someone else?" he asks and Ruby takes a few steps back "Uh... cause I always had it" she says and she trips backwards over an unopened box, but Yami catches her before she hits the ground "Nice save" Ruby jokes and she rubs her shoulder "Are you okay?" Yami asks putting her on her bed and he earns a nod "Yeah I'm fine" she says and asks "Can you leave now? I'm tired". When she's alone again she lets herself fall on her bed, she was lucky he didn't recognize her now "I'm sorry" she whispers as she turns to lay on her stomach "Sorry I died saving your friends." she mumbles, well almost died, still Isis said she had died since they didn't hear her heartbeat for about 2 minutes. Seto enters her room after knocking and he is surprised to see his always cheerful and handful sister crying so he walks over and hugs her "Shh, I'm here Ruby."

At the game shop Yugi is sitting in his room looking at the spirit from his puzzle "What was that about?" he asks and Yami says "She had things that belong to someone else." "You mean the necklace and bracelet?" Yugi asks and he thinks for a while after a slight nod. "Well she translated that other tablet without taking her eyes off Ishizu, she hadn't even looked at it." Yugi says so Yami starts pacing "She can read the tablets with ease, knows things without reading them and has things belonging to the sun goddess, but she isn't her, otherwise she'd have shown herself already." he sums up and sighs disappearing into the puzzle again. That night Yami has a strange dream, something of his past he thinks, but he doesn't know for sure.
