Chapter 9

Later...

Riker POV

"Riker, wake up."

"Hm?"

"Dinner time."

"Oh..."

I rubbed my eyes a little bit, and sat up.

"You ok? You look confused."

"No, just sleepy..."

I got up and went downstairs for dinner.

"So how was your day, Riker?" Dad asked.

I looked up at him.

"F-fine," I said, quietly.

"What'd you do? Learn anything new?" He asked.

Why is he talking to me?

"Um... I d-don't know..."

"He made a friend," Rydel said.

I wish everybody would stop talking to me. I hate the attention!

"What's your friend's name?" Dad asked.

"H-her name is H-Hailey."

"Is she nice?"

"S-she's very nice."

"Well I'm glad you made a friend already."

He started asking everyone else about their day, and I sighed in relief. I really just wanted the attention off of me.

Later...

Riker POV

Everything was going fine. I was studying my math notes when Rydel came in.

"Dad wants to talk to you."

"W-what!?"

"He's downstairs in the living room."

"W-why!? W-what does he w-want!?"

"I don't know. He probably just wants to get to know you or something."

I started to tremble inside.

"Riker, you'll be fine. Dad won't hurt you. I promise. He just wants to talk."

"A-am I in t-trouble!?"

"No. I don't think so."

I grabbed my baby blanket, and held it tightly in my hands as Rydel walked me to the top of the stairs.

"You'll be fine, Riker."

She gave me some light pats on my shoulder, and went back to her room. Tears brimmed in my eyes as I slowly walked down the stairs. I didn't want to disobey. So I sat down across from dad in the living room.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Dad asked.

"N-nothing," I said, wiping my tears with my blanket.

"Well I wanted to talk to you about living here and stuff."

"O-ok..."

I managed to calm myself down a little.

"I just wanted to know how you were doing."

"I-I'm fine..."

"Rydel told me you have sort of a trust issue with males."

I nodded, looking down. I was afraid to meet his eyes.

"Riker, I know your old dad used to abuse you. But I want you to know that nothing like that will happen here. I want you to feel comfortable here. And I want you to feel like you can talk to any of us if you need to."
