Catching Her Breath

All her life, she was catching her breath
Her parents fought and she hated it.
Every scream, every unkind word made her
Catch her breath
She would escape, go running
Only to catch her breath when she'd gone so far
The girls at school would be at every turn,
Taunting, teasing, making her
Catch her breath
There was one boy who made her catch her breath, made her think she could be loved
Until he was gone
It wasn't her, he said. It was him.
They were all liars.
One day, she fell in love
And all she could do was catch her breath...
And let it go.
