"Mommy!" I heard my little girl scream as I felt a pair of small arms wrap around my legs.

I crouched down so I could give my baby girl a proper snuggle.

I looked up as I heard steps come down the stairs.

"Honey, I've told you many times to not open the door unless I'm down here..." My mom stops and smiles when she realizes its just me.

"Thanks for taking care of her today mom." I stood up

"No problem honey. Aileen is a wonderful little girl and I love having some grandma and granddaughter time!" My mom squealed in adoration

A small chuckle left my lips and Aileen stumbled over to give her grandma a goodbye kiss

"What do you say Aileen?" I asked just as we were about to leave

"Thank you grandma! Love you..."

"Thank you hun!" My mom hugged my little girl once more, "ill see you on Christmas!"

"Christmas!" Aileen screeched out of excitement as we all laughed at my weird yet adorable child.

.

"Aileen, you want to write Santa your letter?" I asked as I searched for my five year old

"Yes!" She popped out of her room already prepared with a marker and paper.

"Alright, lets do this." Writing letters to Santa had been something we began last year and I hoped it would be a tradition we could keep for years to come.

We sat on our living room couch as Michael Bublé's Christmas album played in the background.

I set our hot cocoa's down as we began writing.

I loved watching her get so excited. Her smile was enough to bring me happiness, she was my life and I would do anything for her.

"Finished!" Aileen exclaimed as she raised her letter in the air

"Care to share?" I questioned

" 'Dear Santa, I know this might be a lot to ask but I was wondering if you could bring my daddy home for Christmas. You see I've never met him and I would really like to. Sincerely, Aileen.'  How was that mommy?"

I stared at my daughter. Her words slowly processing through my mind. I gulped as I began.

"That was beautiful honey. But just remember that Santa is very busy delivering every little kids present."

"I know Mommy." Aileen spoke up

"no matter what Santa brings you on Christmas morning just be happy, okay?" I watched as my daughters eye's sparked at the mere thought of meeting her father, I would never want to see that shine diffuse.

But what was I going to do. He made it clear the day he left me that he wanted nothing to do with me or Aileen.

How do you explain that to a five year old?

Simple.

You Can't.

.

I held onto Aileen's hand as I watched her little feet create perfectly sculpted footprints on the freshly laid snow.

"You excited for Christmas?" I squeezed her tiny hand lightly

"Yes! Really excited." She simply replied

"I'm glad." I knocked on the door and in less than five seconds I was met by my dad.

"Honey! You guys made it!" He squealed bringing both me and Aileen into one of his bear hugs

"You know we could never miss yours and mom's annual Christmas dinner." I smiled as we stepped inside

We spent the first few minutes saying hi to all our relatives who seemed to be enjoying themselves, laughing, talking and eating.

I slipped Aileen out of her coat as she ran off to play with her cousins.

"(YN)!" i heard my brothers familiar voice

"Donny! How have you been?" I screamed as I ran in for a hug. I hadn't seen him in what seemed like forever and I've missed him so much.

"I've been well? You? I just said hi to your little one. She gets taller every time I see her." He gave a little chuckle as he brought me in for another one of his warm hugs.

If you haven't noticed we're huggers in this family.

"She sure does. And so do yours. I feel like last time I saw them they were tiny little babies!" I laugh before continuing,  "Where's Mary?" I asked, inquiring about his wife, as I slipped out his embrace.

"She's talking to Mom in the dining room."

"I should go say hi then." We both left the kitchen and entered the dining room as I began another round of hugs and hello's.

"(YN) can you help me bring the food out." my mom asked leading the way to the kitchen

"How have you been honey? You seem a bit off." my mom knew too well

"Its nothing." I tried playing it off as I took the ham out of the oven.

"Oh, no, no, no. You don't fool me missy. I know when one of my babies is upset." She took a hold of my chin as she brought my gaze to meet hers.

"Aileen wants to meet her father." I blurted out.

My mom held a shocked expression before recuperating and continuing, "How? Why?"

"I don't know how she got the idea mom. Maybe at pre-school? I don't know...the point is she did, and she asked Santa for the opportunity to meet her daddy." Memories of the words slipping past her lips ran through my mind. "I just don't want to break her heart." Tears flooded my eyes before I set them free.

My mom was quick to wipe them away bringing me into a much-needed hug.

.

Christmas dinner flew by but the catching up lasted a bit longer.

I had forgotten how nice it was to be surrounded by all the family.

A knock was heard, pausing the conversation for second.

"I'll get it!" my five year old exclaimed, running out the dining room and towards the door.

I was quick to follow her. This girl just happened to have a fascination with opening doors for some reason.

"Aileen, what have I told you about opening doors without permission. " I scorned as I caught up with my daughter

I looked up and I swear my heart sank to the pit of my stomach as I suddenly forgot how to breathe.

Those eyes, those piercing blue eyes that vanished within seconds from my, our lives.

"Niall."

Hope you like it so far. This idea popped into my head and if you would like to know what happens make sure to vote and comment. Love you all...
