I sat with Dean at Bobby's house while he made shotgun shells filled with phoenix ash.

Bobby and Sam made their way downstairs.

"Hey. How you doing?" Sam asked.

"Five shells. That's how we're doing," Dean said, sounding irritated.

Sam sighed. "Well, you know, it's a hell of a lot more than what we had last week."

Dean sighed. "Maybe."

"Meaning?" Sam asked.

"Meaning, I just had myself a little mishap a few minutes ago, and, uh, well, here, look." Dean pinched some ashes and rubbed it on his skin, but nothing happened.

"Whoa," Sam said, surprised.

"Huh." Bobby nodded.

I rolled my eyes. "I already told you, there's a ton of things we use on monsters that don't effect us."

Dean shook his head. "Yeah, I know, but I mean, this stuff is supposed to burn the bejeezus out of Eve. Doesn't even give me a sunburn."

Nate shrugged. "Lore says it'll work."

Dean scoffed. "That's always reliable."

Sam shrugged. "Well, maybe Maddi's right... maybe it's like, uh— maybe it's like iron or silver. Ya know? Hurts them, not us."

I pointed at Sam and nodded. "See?" I asked Dean. "It could still work."

Dean nodded. "Maybe, but a fat lot of good it does us 'til we find the bitch."

"I'm looking, but I'm thinking maybe it's time you made a call," Bobby said.

"Why has it always got to be me that makes the call, huh?" Dean asked. "It's not like Cass lives in my ass. The dude's busy."

Cass appeared behind Dean, who turned around in surprise at that exact moment.

"Cass, get out of my ass!" Dean yelled.

Cass furrowed his brow. "I was never in your ass."

"You sure about that?" I asked.

Dean shot me a look, and I smirked back.

"Have you made any progress in locating Eve?" Cass asked.

"Well, we were gonna ask you about that," Bobby said.

Cass shook his head. "No, I've looked, but she's hidden from me. She's hidden from all angels."

Dean scoffed. "Awesome."

"You know, what we really need is an inside man," Sam said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

Sam shrugged. "Something with claws and sympathy."

"Like a friendly monster?" Dean asked, and Sam shrugged. "Those are in short supply these days, don't you think?"

Sam nodded. "Sure, but we've met one or two, right?"

Dean nodded. "Maybe."

"So, we can find one," Sam said and gave Cass a look.

A couple of hours went by as we waited for Cass to return. Finally, Cass appeared with his hand on Lenore's shoulder after feeling like he might never return. Lenore was a friendly vampire we had met years before. Gordon had tried to kill her and her clan, but we saved them.
