Ch. 18 Under the Stars

Brennan's POV

It looked like Annie. I pull up to her. I park the car and hop out. I run over to her. She's crying, she wipes away the tears with her hand. I slowly come up to her. Once she hears me she looks up.

She is broken. I put my arms around her and she breaks down crying. I just rub her back. She doesn't need to say anything and I don't either. We stay like this until she lifts her head up.

"He... he. I didn't like it." Is all that she could get out. I pulled her into my chest again. I rested my chin on her head. We're like this for a minute or so.

"It's okay, you're safe now. Let's get in the car." We break apart and then I help in the car. I get in my seat and then drive slowly. She closes her eyes tries not to cry. There is a bench at a hill point that looks over the whole lake and a pond. I pull into there. Annie looks out.

"Why'd we stop?" I hand her a tissue (there was a box of kleenexes in here).

I don't say anything. All I do is help her out and then walk her to the bench. I sit down next to her.

"This is where I go when I need to think or just relax." I look up at the stars. "I thought it would help you." She smiles and then lays her head on my shoulder. We stay like this, in silence, looking at the water move.

I feel her breathing steady and it sounds like she fell asleep. I take out my phone and text Caleb. 'Annie is with me now and sleeping. She was crying when I found her. I'll talk to her when she wakes up. She shouldn't be crowded by lots of people right now.' I hit send and then look down at Annie.

I hold her hand with mine. It feels nice just to sit here with her. I start to hear sniffles and weeps coming from her. I look at her and tears are streaming down her face.

"Annie! Annie, wake up!" I start to lightly shake her body. Her head jumps up and she looks around in fear.

"Is he gone?" She looks at me. Her makeup smeared across her face. Even then she looked beautiful. It's sad to see her like this.

"Yes, is it okay for me to ask what happened?" I don't want to be rude, but I want to know. She thinks about for a minute.

"Um, well. Spencer took me out all sweet and like a gentleman. He took me to the place where we asked me to go with him. It was quite nice. Then he asked me if I've been kissed before. I said no, and then he started to kiss me. I didn't want him to, I wasn't ready. I told him to stop, but he didnt." She wipes her tears. "He touched me in ways that I didn't want him to. He started to kiss my neck and then grabbed my butt." She stopped talking put her face in her hands and cried. I rub her back. She stops crying and looks up at me agian. "I told him no multiple times, he kissed me again. The only way to get him off of me was to kiss him back, and even though I hated every second of it, I had to." She said that last part so quiet I could barely hear her. I didn't know what to say or do. "I finally got him off of me. I couldn't move, but then I had enough so I slapped him. He thought it was funny. I punched him in the face and then kneed him in the stomach, I kicked him again." She just stared at the lake in silence.

"Annie, I am so sorry. If there's anything you need I'm right here for you." I hugged her and she hugged me back. She smelled like lavender.

"But did you seriously punch him?" I say smiling. She laughs and shakes her head. I hear a chuckle escape her mouth.

"Thank you so much Brennan. You've always been there for me. I'm glad I have you." She smiles that beautiful smile of hers.

"I'm glad I can make you smile! It looks good on you." I couldn't help but just stare at her.

"Thanks." She says it sweetly. She puts her head on my shoulder again. I wrap my arm around her shoulder and rub her arm. She has goosebumps.

"You must be freezing, here, take my coat." I wrap it around her and she takes it gladly. We get back to how we were before.

Annie's POV

I feel safe in Brennan's arms. I couldn't help but smile. He came all the way here for me. I was so tired from tonight, my eyes are heavy. I close them and fall asleep in his arms.

Soon I feel someone playing pick me up bridle style. I put my arms around their neck and bury my head into their chest. They put me in a car and put my seat belt on. Before they closed the door, they kissed my forehead. We drove away.

Brennan's POV

I started to play with Annie's hair while she has sleeping. I looked at my watch at it was almost 12. We should get going. I pick her up in my arms and it feels like she doesn't weigh anything. She wraps her arms around my neck and buries her head into my chest. I can't help but smile.

I open the car door and sit her down on the seat. I put her seat belt on and then close the door, but before I do so, I look at her and then kiss her forehead. I drive to my house, because everyone was waiting there. I take my hand and interlock it with hers for the whole ride. It felt nice.

I arrive at my house. I get out and go to Annie's side. "Annie, Annie. We're home." I shake her lightly. She opens hers eyes slowly and smiles.

"Come on goofball, everyone's waiting for us." I help her out and we walk in together. Katie comes over right away and hugs/ squeezes Annie. Caleb come up to me and we bro hug. We break apart.

"Syd, could you get Annie some water please? Caleb asks her. She walks over the the kitchen. "Come on, we need to talk." He whispers. We go outside on the dock.

"Is she alright?" He looks so sad. What should I say?

"She is now, and that's all that really matters." He nods his head.

"What happened?" He puts his hands in his pocket.

"I'm pretty sure she'll tell all of you when she's ready, but I stayed with her and made sure she was well. As for Spencer, she took care of him. It's actually pretty funny." I chuckle and then he lightly punches my arm.

"What you'd do?" He makes a stern face.

"I didn't do anything. Annie is the one who punched him" His jaw dropped.

"My little sister punched someone?!" His mouth curves into a smile.

Annie's POV

Brennan and Caleb come back inside. We all sit on the couch and I tell them what happened. I didn't go too into detail.

"Oh Annie, you're are so brave." Syd hugs me.

"Guys, I'm really tired. Can I spend the night here?" Katie and Brennan nod their heads yes.

"Actually, why don't all of us stay here?" Caleb suggest. We smile and then go into a group hug. I'm glad I have such great friends.
