Prick

Hilltop had a serene feeling to it.

It was quiet, but not too quiet.

There were people out working in gardens, farming.

There were lots of trailers lined up in a neat row.

A large, old, colonial style house stood in the center of it all.

Rick wrapped his arm around Katie, who was still standing behind him.

He pulled her back towards him.

He wanted her close to him, just in case.

They walked into the community and started looking around, admiring the place.

The group spread out slightly.

They were still close enough that if they were forced to close ranks and fight, they could get back to each other quickly.

"I'll be in the medical trailer when you're ready," Harlan said to Glenn and Maggie, helping to carry the injured man to the trailer.

Jesus explained the history of the community as they walked towards the old house, which they learned was called Barrington House.

Jesus opened up the beautiful wooden doors and let the group into the house.

Katie smiled.

She hadn't seen a house this beautiful in a long time.

It reminded her of the place where she and John got married.

Despite how their marriage ended, Katie had some fond memories of their time together.

She hadn't been in love with or even had any love for John for years, but she could still appreciate some aspects of their marriage because she wasn't as heartless as some people would like to believe.

She thought about how nice John looked in his dress blues and all of the other marines who were at their wedding.

But then she remembered just how much of a douche he was at the end of their marriage and she was snapped back to reality.

"Good gracious Ignatius," Abraham muttered, admiring the house around him.

"Damn right," Katie said, walking up beside him.

"So what happens in this place?" Katie asked.

"Most of the rooms have been converted to living spaces. Even the ones that weren't bedrooms,"Jesus said.

"So people live here and in the trailers?" Rick asked.

"We plan to build. There's babies being born," Jesus sighed.

A pair of double doors opened quickly to their left.

Katie's hand flew to the handgun in her holster out of habit.
