"Connie?"

"..."

"Connie...please...talk to me"

"I'm sorry Steven" the phone hung up and Steven stared blankly at the screen

"S-Steven?" a high pitched voice sounded. Even if he was in a state of grief she still made him smile.

"I've got food" she handed him a plastic bag full of fries and whatnot "are you better now?"

"yeah, but listen" he patted to the seat next to him and Peridot followed

"would you mind if you talked to Connie?"

"What?!" she choked on a few fries "you KNOW she hates me!"

"please?" he pouted

"Steven don't-" she was interrupted by Steven putting all the force he could to her

"NO! Steven! that face-" she massaged her forehead "please do NOT do that face"

and thats how she ended up here, next to Connie, in the rain, holding an umbrella.

The silence was unbearable as she held the umbrella under the pouring rain, their bodies huddled under their only protection. Connie trying to avoid any and all eye contact with her. Peridot finally grew impatient and threw the umbrella to the ground, finally screaming:

"Why is it so hard?!" Connie looked confused and grasped for the thrown umbrella, huddled under it and asked her "what do you mean?"

"W-why..." the green gem stuttered "why is it so hard to be friends with you?" she looked desperately in Connie's eyes as if she could find an answer in them. She only sighed and grabbed Peridot's soaking hand from the rain and walked from the steep hill they sat on

"w-where are you taking me?"

"Home" she said and calmly opened a door to a slightly damp wood-like house. Connie set her hands down and sat with the green gem. She opened her mouth to say something, but she couldn't and felt wet hot tears down her face

"Why are you crying?!" Peridot patted her face multiple times to help her but to no avail

"I don't want to hate you!" she shouted "You're a good person!" she curled up into a ball and continued sobbing "I don't want to lose him" Peridot froze and simply stared at her in guilt. Once Connie had stopped, she looked to see Peridot's concerned face

"Please let me help you" Peridot whispered "I know how it felt to be like that" she tried to comfort Connie but she was silent

"can we talk about this?"

"Y-yeah" Peridot took Connie's hand and beamed her best smile to cheer her up

"Where to, friend?!" she beamed. And what seamed for the first time, Connie smiled

"lets get some snacks" she dragged the green gem to a tidy and clean kitchen with a mahogany table with four chairs. Peridot sat on a chair while Connie struggled to reach her snacks. The silence was once again death-threatening

"How did you and Steven meet?" Peridot broke the silence

"it was on the beach, he was trying to be my friend" Connie dropped a large plastic jar of strawberry jam. Then she realized they were both soaking wet

"w-wait I'll be right back!" she returned with two towels and gave one to Peridot before going back to her quest to her snacks

"did you have any friends?"

"none that i had, but I have a few now- like Peedee  and Jem."

"I used to have none too" Connie faced her in curiousity "what do you mean?"

"when you're an era two gem, you are told every day you mean nothing. You're not even allowed to have friends or preferences. You don't matter, the only thing that matters is that you do your job and not make a clod of yourself. If you don't do your job you'll be shattered. Noone cared..." Peridot was on the verge of tears "except Steven"

"he gave me a new home. I've never been happier" she smiled sweetly. Connie smiled as well and handed her a biscuit with strawberry jam on it

"what is that" Peridot questioned

"its what me and Steven ate when we were 'Jam Buds' I thought you would like it"

Peridot hesitated before taking the biscuit and eating it. they both smiled and enjoyed the rest of their time. Turned out that they had a lot in common after all

after a few hours Peridot stood from her chair "what are you doing?" asked Connie

"I need to get home, I'll tell Steven it all worked out" Connie seemed deep in thought before answering

"tell him im sorry for being angry at him" Peridot smiled in return and walked out in the rain. Somehow enjoying the droplets pouring down on her. She finally got to the homey temple and opened the door. It was a bit too quiet for her liking

"Amethyst?Pearl? Garnet? Steeeeven?" she circled around the house to see the leader of the Crystal gems sitting on the carpet while holding a N64 controller, shifting with ease. Peridot walked over to her and sat next to her, watching the character punch through walls and walls of monsters

"where is everyone else?" Peridot turned to her

"They went to another concert" she responded blankly before turning back to the game

"when do you think they'll be back?" she responded with a shrug and Peridot sighed and thought on what to do next, she really didn't want to sleep yet since she would feel empty, not being able to tell Steven what happened

"I'll go outside okay?" Garnet nodded "stay safe" Peridot then stepped off and saw a black leather jacket. Without another thought she put it on, the sleeves were way to long for her so she bunched them up to her elbows and smiled. Like Amethyst would've said, she looked 'cool'.

"onwards!" she smiled and walked out the door, looking at the bright lights illuminating the small town. She decided to visit a place where Steven took her a few days ago

'Big Donut' she thought to herself and walked in

"Welcome to the Big donu- oh! hi Peridot!" Sadie waves to the small gem and she responds by also waving akwardly

"good evening 'Sadie', may I have a donut?" she said, trying to act as casual as possible

"heheh, alright" She chuckled at the choice of words and placed two chocolate donuts in a paper bag "its on the house" she smiled warmly

"um no, its in my hands" Sadie chuckled again

"you really are something, tell Steven I said hi" she gave the back

"I will" and with that she walked out the door.

She munched slightly on the donut as she walked on the sidewalk. she felt alone, she wanted to go home- but she would feel even more alone. She wanted to call Lapis, other than Steven and Amethyst, she was the one of her bestest friends. But then she would feel guilt of leaving her there. Thoughts of guilt clouded her mind and she stopped and made a beeline for the temple and into the warp pad.

she smiled and wiped a tear from her eye as she looked at the silhouette of the barn

1 hour later, Stevens POV

"Amethyst no you'll get soda all over me!" Pearl said when Amethyst opened her soda, I just opened the door

Boy is there no place like home

maybe?

it feels to silent to be home

"Garnet?" even before I could walk around I tripped on something

"Peridot?" her gem was slightly cracked at the side and her body was with a large dark green on her chest. She looked pretty bad so I called for them to look at her

"Peri?"

and the thin-figured silhouette flew off anxiously
