             [faith] [June 4, 2014]

As soon as I flashed the door open, I stumbled back slightly due to a weight latching on my body. A head was tucked under my chin and arms around my neck as sobs wrecked her body, while a mop of ginger hair that was damp, stuck to her neck; probably damp due to the slight rain outside. Drops of tears fell on my shoulder, as a single one escaped my eye too. She was here, Amber was finally here and I couldn't help but cry.

“F-faith-” She stopped mid-sentence, her cracked and broken voice causing my heart to sink. It was absolutely horrible to see Amber cry; someone who's always so enthusiastic and full of life that even imagining her being sad is something that makes everything dull. Out of habit, my hands ran along her auburn waves; something that comes naturally from me when I try to comfort someone. It's no new news that I'm horrible and consoling people, and I hate it. I never know what to do and I only want to break down crying with them.

A small force on my shoulder pulled me away from the girl in front of me, as her face revealed. What a mess she was; this is not how I wanted to meet her after everything. But I guess you don't get everything you want. The white of her eyes had practically gone red by so much crying, and I couldn't help but wonder what was so bad that had happened. Her face sweaty and tired, I grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her towards the sofa, where Hannah sat gobsmacked, mouth dropped open. She was sensible and mature, and knew when to say what. She kept quiet and me and Liam both helped Amber sit down. Truly, it was till unbelievable for me that she was here, but this was not the time for all that.

“Relax and breathe, I'm getting you water,” Liam assured patting her back, and then disappeared into the kitchen. Hannah, who was on the end of the sofa, slowly scooted closer to Amber who was in the middle. I could see it in Hannah's eyes that she still was finding it hard to believe that she was here, but tried her best not to show it on her face. Without a single word, she wrapped her small hands around Amber's currently weak body, causing Amber to latch an arm around Hannah's petite self.

“You'll be okay,” Hannah whispered into her ear, but it was audible. Amber only shrugged a little, but at least there was a reaction. The two hugged for the longest time, until Liam approached back wtith a tray in his hands. Kneeling by the coffee table, he placed the items on the surface.

Silently I grabbed the glass of warm water, and knowing that Amber wasn't going to take any efforts herself, I brought the rim up to her lips, trying to feed her the liquid. She obeyed, taking small sips while sobbing softly all along. Though she was better than a few minutes ago, it wasn't enough. Next I grabbed a hand towel and immediately she grabbed it, cleaning her tear stained face with it. I smiled a little, knowing how much she hates crying in front of anyone.

“Do you want to eat?” I asked, my hand still absent-mindedly calmly rubbing her back. She shook her head in a no, gently rubbing her eyes with her fingertips. I didn't insist on anything, just giving her time to calm down.

It took a few minutes, and we were all okay with it. Finally her sobs and sniffles had stopped, and she was breathing steadily. Taking a deep breath and then releasing it, her hand moved to her head, running her fingers through her hair. None of us needed to ask anything, because she knew she had to tell what had happened.
