ugh, I was typing and everything I wrote turned into these asterisks (******) like rows and rows of them! Thankfully, this time around I had the file saved and had a backup so I only had to retype like 800 words and not 3,000+ words. Enjoy :)

Chapter 54 – Lost and Found (Devin Rosario POV) Pt.1

What was Taylor going to do when or if Samson had actually decided that he wanted to date her? I think of the question repeatedly after deciding that I couldn't just chuck my phone and computer. Exhausted, my eyes burning, I drive to Winnemucca, Nevada and pull into the gas station, my tank needing to be filled anyways.

As I peer around the area, the deserted road, just around five am, I observe that it was no longer just the odd car every ten minutes.

"Ugh!, Seven more hours and 500 miles til Vegas!" the owner of the car opposite my pump announces happily, her voice filled with glee. "I cannot wait," the other replies, both women walking towards the entrance.

"Technically, with our stop in Austin..." I hear no more when they enter the Shell Quick Mart. Glancing around; I take a step away from my car and peer around at the truck they left pumping. Keeping a good look out I grab my cell phone, turning it back on before I scurry towards the white Ford truck, popping the back and tossing my phone in.

The minute I've snapped the back of the truck cover down in place I hurry back to the car, grab three bill and head to the Quick Mart.

I keep my head down avoiding the stares of four other customers. Especially when I get a glimpse of my reflection in the glass cases. My eyes are nearly swollen shut from crying and what can be seen is completely red, my nose as bright as a red light.

Splotchy cheeks and my hair in disarray, I looked horrible.

Worse, it felt as though my tears, the urge to cry was just right there, simmering. What I overheard from Taylor eating me up inside.

I stand and let all the others cash their purchases before I walk to the cashier and place the bottles of water, an apple juice and prepaid phone on the counter. When I finally look up, my hoodie falling off, the woman working behind the counter does a double take of my face, her eyes widening though she does look away.

Swallowing thickly, she glances out at the yard, and when I'm sure the white Ford truck with two girls is gone, I turn back to her.

"Uhm, I've had a really long night – would it be okay if I just pulled up next to the green Toyota for a couple of hours?" I murmur the question, my voice cracking a time or two.

Brown eyes search mine, before glancing out at the yard again; the only car in the lot is mine. She nods slowly, "Yeah, sure, that'd be fine." Relief is just instant, and I sigh, out handing her the money once she's given me my total.

Should Taylor be able to track my phone, she'd be following the two women in the Ford. Not me.

Gathering my items, I hurry back to the car, filling the tank, once I've finished, I pull in next to the Toyota. Distracted, I open the plastic wrapper slipping the battery in and turning the phone on once I've slipped the prepaid sim card in.

Going through the installation process, on autopilot my vision blurs as I flick my gaze to the money hidden between the seats. Blood money, I think instantly.

Money she probably got for murdering Silas... Brennans' brother. My hand shakes and a piece of me, of my heart, feel as though it's physically ripped away.
