I didn't know what to do now. I laid Lex down on her bed and put gauze on her neck. I called Connor even though it took everything in me not to take Lex and run. The only reason I didn't was for the state Lex was in and Lex would never forgive me for taking her away from her family and from her home.

Connor had asked what happened about ten times but I'd just told him to get here as quick as he could and then I hung up. That probably meant he would be here in three... two... one...

"Hayden, what happened?" Connor said, now standing in our kitchen. "I smelled Lex's blood before I was even on the property," he said.

"I... uh..." I started and then raked both hands through my hair and turned around before I faced Connor again.

The only thing was Connor wasn't there anymore. I could hear his light footsteps walking in Lex's room. I shot down the hallway to the doorway. I looked down at Lex's body and instantly felt horrible, once again. Connor was kneeled beside her bedside, about to peel back the gauze.

I heard a growl erupt from Connor's throat and I cringed. I knew Connor cared for Lex just like I did. Why? how could you not? Lex had a smile that could light up a room and if she cared for someone she cared for them with all her heart.

Connor was in front of me the next second and I braced myself for his blow. He backhanded me and my head snapped to the left. I usually would be furious but I knew I deserved the consequences for hurting Lex. "How could you do this to Lex? I thought she was the one person you didn't want anything to happen to," Connor said angrily as he bared his fangs at me.

"It was the cut on her hand, she reopened it and she wouldn't leave when I was resisting the vampire part of me. I asked her to leave so many times but she wouldn't and I lost control, the next thing I knew I was drinking her blood," I explained.

"You know how painful resisting your vampire half can be, but yet you still do it after all these years so you wouldn't hurt her, but this time you just seemed to slip up," Connor said, baring his fangs at me as his voice came out deeper which was a warning that he was close to letting his vampire half take control.

"You're lucky I don't kill you now," Connor said, giving me a murderous smile as his deeper voice sent chills down my spine. I knew if Connor lost control then I would be dead in seconds.

"Why don't you?" I asked, "I'd rather die than hurt her again," I stated.

"The only reason I'm not killing you," Connor said, anger still set in his blood red eyes and in the dark voice he used, "is because she is so close to you," he finished. "She would never forgive me for killing you," Connor said, his normal voice back as he looked at Lex.

I was listening for every heartbeat to make sure she was still living and I could tell Connor was too. "If you were anybody else you would be dead right now," Connor stated, glaring at me with his crimson eyes. "You're lucky you are who you are because otherwise your heart would be five feet from your body," he said, giving me one more murderous grin, his fangs piercing his bottom lip.

I looked back at Lex and I sat by the foot of her bed while Connor hovered near her head. I could never forgive myself for what I'd just done to her. It would be better for her if I were dead. I should have never survived the transformation the night my parents were murdered.

I got up and walked to the bathroom. I started scrubbing Lex's blood off my face, neck, and hands. When I'd gotten it all off I walked to my room and changed into a black T-shirt. I tossed the other shirt into the trash as it had Lex's blood stained on it.
