The Preperation

I wake up confused. I look around trying to figure out where I am, before I remember all of yesterday. Oh my god, I moved to a completely different country and totally forgot about it! You need some food girl!

I wander upstairs to find mom's car gone and dad in the kitchen with his Starbucks coffee. He sees me and smiles while saying,
"I seriously miss my damn Tim Hortons!" I crack up, which widens his smile

"Me too, daddy. Good thing we brought all those Tasamo ones!" I say as his eyebrows furrow. The look of excitement then washes over his face, "Oh! I compeltely forgot about those!!" He jumps up and kisses my head. "This is why you're my favourite child!" He says searching the cupboards for his Timmies.

"I'm your only child, dad." I say laughing at the joke I've heard more than a billion times.

I am an only child, it kinda sucks. I wish I had a sibling that I could be best friends with. Someone to complain to when mom and dad were aggravating me, someone to talk to me late at night and watch movies with me when I'm sick. It's also kind of nice being an only child though. I'm going to be honest, I'm seriously spoiled! I get a huge room, and a lot of clothes since I'm the only one they need to worry about. I don't take advantage of it though, I like to think that I'm down to earth and respectable. Not some brat that has mummy and daddy wrapped around their finger. But I don't mind, I like that they keep me grounded.

A couple minutes later mom enters the house with groceries and begins to make breakfast, fried egg and bacon sandwiches. During our first meal in the new house my dad's excited expression returns, "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you two. We'll be having the whole team and their families over tonight. The GM wants us to get to know each other, and I think it's a really good idea. So we'll do burgers and hot dogs on the grill, and the pool guys came a couple days ago so the pool and hot tub are good to go."

"Woah what?!? We have a pool!? And a hot tub!? Man I'm loving life!!" I say finishing my sandwich.

"Bill! You seriously need to tell me these things before I go grocery shopping! Uhg, I'll be back. Bill can you do the dishes, I'm sure Kayella has more of her room to finish." She says grabbing her purse and walking out the door, I assume to go back to the grocery store.

4:30. That's when everyone's coming over. I need to look good tonight, I need to make a good first impression. Like always, I want to look good for me, but this time I also want to look good for my parents. This is my dad's new job, he can't have his 16 year old daughter looking like a lunatic.

3pm. I better start getting ready. I strip down and hop in the shower. While the hot water prickles my back I begin to think.

Man, I hope these guys are nice. No not because I want to date one of them. No, my dad has been coaching my whole life and not once have I dated one of his players. No, I hope they're nice because my dad has to coach them almost every single day, and I'll be going to school with them all. I'll also be stuck attending most of their practices since dad got me a job at the rink. I got to say, sometimes it pays off to have your dad as the head coach...especially for the Errie Otters.

I hop out of the shower; 3:50. Damn Kayella, you think too much! I begin to do my makeup. I know we'll be swimming so I only put on a bit of cover-up, some powder and mascara. I then take my hair out of the towel and put in some moose so it doesn't get all frizzy.

I then enter my closet. I need a bathing suit, a cute one just in case someone good looking stops by. Ummm...ah! The Victoria secret one that makes my boobs and bum look great. Not to mention the all black suit makes my bright blue eyes pop even more than usual. I cover the bathing suit with a long sleeve, dark blue dress that has flower detailing on the sleeves and strings that criss-cross on my chest. The last thing I grab are my white and black flip flops. I head back to my makeup station and brush out my hair, leaving my long, naturally pin-straight, light brown hair parted to one side.

I climb the stairs and find my parents in the kitchen cutting watermelon and adding drinks to the coolers. I immediately jump in helping mum cut the second half of the watermelon.

"I know you both know that tonight is important for me. I just want to let you guys know that you don't need to act a certain way, just be yourselves and they'll love you. And thank you, both of you, for following me everywhere for this crazy job. I love you two." My dad says getting all gushy.

"Yes, I love you two as well!" My mom says walking into my dad's embrace.

"You guys are the best, I love you too." I say smiling.

Then the doorbell rings.
