The school day was almost over. I would soon be able to get away from the teachers, challenging work and rude classmates. I let out a sigh as the bell rang. Standing up, I tucked in my chair and turned to leave. Suddenly, someone crashed their shoulder into mine causing me to trip and drop my things. Sniggers echoed through the classroom as everybody left me behind to clean up my things, everybody but one. The only person who didn't leave was a boy who sat at the back of the class and barely spoke a word. He was like me, quiet and reserved.

I looked back at him and caught him watching me. He quickly turned back to his things when I saw him. I smiled to myself. He was so shy, it was kinda cute. As I went to pick up my last few supplies, I noticed a pair of new black converse high tops in front of me. As I looked up I watched the boy come down to my level and help me gather up the remains of my scattered belongings. He shakily passed me my colourful pencils and gave me a half smile. I nearly dropped everything again, his smile was to die for. It wasn't even a full, genuine smile yet its effects were tremendous. I could feel my cheeks beginning to burn already. I muttered a soft 'Thank you' as I kept my eyes to the floor to avoid further blushing. I could see him nod out of the corner of my eye. We both stood up. Grabbing my bag, I shoved everything inside making sure nothing would tumble out. The boy walked beside me to the door where he waved me off. I smiled and waved back in response. My heart was beating at a faster rate and my stupid smile stayed plastered onto my face. Then it dawned upon me, the buses were leaving...

As I ran as fast as I could, I barely made it home on the bus, luckily the bus driver was patient. I couldn't afford to be late home anymore.

As soon as I got home, I threw my bag inside and rushed away to tutoring.
"I'm here!" I announced as I practically bursted through the door.
"I was wondering when you would get here. She's in the kitchen at the table."
"Okay thank you." I replied making my way towards the room.
"I'll see you later, dear." The lady called out to her daughter as she shut the door behind her.
"So, how was your day?" I asked faking a smile.
"Oh, it was... okay." The little girl answered avoiding eye contact. I could hear the hurt in her voice. I felt bad for her. She reminded me of myself.
"What do you have for homework tonight?" She pointed to all the books and work on the table. How could one little girl have so much school work to do.
"Uh, what would you like to start with today?"
"Math." Of course. Just like everyone one else, I didn't like math either but to tell the truth, I actually was pretty good at it.
"Alright." I responded as I sat myself down beside her.
"Equations already?" She nodded.
"One day you're doing fractions, the next you're doing equations. No wonder you find this class so hard, you're just rushing through everything." I said trying to smile again.

I spent hours throughly explaining all work that confused her, making sure she understood everything. She was a smart kid, her teacher was just pushing her to do too much work and wouldn't spend the time to help her. She was working really hard. She deserved something, a reward for all her unappreciated hard work.
"You've been doing a lot of work." She kept working.
"Tell you what, let's go get you a treat." Her head perked up at that.
"Really?" She spoke quietly. I nodded.
"You can get anything you want." That put a grin on her face. I stood up.
"C'mon." I smiled. She happily followed.

I shut the door.
"Now make sure you stay close to me, I don't want you to get her." She nodded her head, smile still planted on her face. I was taken a bit back when she grabbed hold of my hand. This shy girl, who wouldn't even speak a word when I first began tutoring her, is now comfortable enough to hold my hand. For some reason, that just warmed my heart.
