(Summer) Chapter 18

Start from the beginning

Hinako's eyes blinked a few times and a faint blush crept up on her face. "I... I feel a lot better compared to yesterday."

"I see. That's good, then."

"But, I wouldn't have gotten better if you didn't take care of me, senpai," Hinako smiles a little more. "Thank you. You're really nice."

Gil felt something crack inside his heart again. It stung a little, for him anyways. Seeing Hinako all better made him feel relieved. Somehow, it was nice to see her up and about again. "Shall we eat breakfast?"

Hinako and Gil started to have their breakfast together. Hinako sat on one side while Gil sat across from Hinako. She was drinking the miso soup from the bowl while pushing the mochi at the back of the bowl with chopsticks. Gil ate the onigiri his underclassman made. He ate it in a slow pace, savoring the hot and delicious meal.

"It's already eight in the morning," Gil said while eating his orange.

"I know," Hinako looks down on the mandarin she was holding. "I decided to take a rest for today."

"Heh," he scoffs a little. "At least you're not stubborn about it," he chuckles.

Hinako pouts a little. "Are you bullying me? It's still early in the morning, senpai."

"I'm not bullying you, idiot. If only you know how stubborn you really are," an irk mark pops out of Gil's cheek.

An irk mark also popped out of Hinako's cheek. "You don't call me a 'mongrel' anymore but now, you keep on calling me an 'idiot'."

"Because you are. What? Do you want me to call you a 'mongrel' again?" Gil motions his body forward, taunting the slightly sarcastically smiling woman in front of him.

"I think I'll pass on that," Hinako smiles sarcastically, the side of her mouth was twitching in irritation.

A ring suddenly echoes throughout the room, startling the two of them. Gil hurriedly took out his cellphone from his pants pocket and answered the call.

"Hello, this is Gil," he responded.

< "Gil, where are you right now? Are you still at Asuto's house?" > A womanly voice said over the other side of the line.

"Oh, good morning, mother," Gil wasn't the very least surprised about his mother calling. "Yes, I'm basically still at Asuto's house."

< "You do know that it's still a school day today, right? I cannot have you skipping classes today," > Gil's mother said, a little angry at the other side.

"Yes, I know. I will be coming home as soon as possible," he releases the tension from his slightly stiff shoulders. "I'm sorry for causing you trouble."

< "Do not do it again, Gil. I really can't have you waste time on such meaningless things," > And with that, she ended the call.

Gil sighs, returning his phone inside his pocket. "I better go home, Suzuhana."

"Oh," she felt a little sad about that. "sure, senpai. I'm sorry for troubling you."

Gil took his bag from the floor and headed towards the door. Hinako follows after him.

"I'm going to school during lunchtime. You better stay here and rest," Gil said, fitting his shoes on his feet. "Don't you dare go to school today."

"I won't, Douji-senpai," Hinako smiles. "Thank you very much. It's the first time that I had someone come to my house."

Gil stopped, looking down on the floor. It's also his first time doing this much for a person, let alone it being Hinako. He wonders to himself on why he did this. Why did he put up the effort in bringing Hinako home and go as far as to take care of her and spend the night in her house? Why didn't he just leave last night and went home?
