She

She sits on a corner
rocking her happy body
ignoring a fuzzy world
and humming her own melody.

She dreams of better places
-places we wouldn't find
or see, or understand-
because everything is pure and kind.

She paints with brighter colors
no shape, no form, no size
her canvas is filled with magic
and her strokes are strong and wise.

She needs no words to write a poem
a masterpiece is in her head
language is a meaningless expression
for us who's language is limited.

She's no different, only better
in heart, and soul and mind
our world fits small to her
because in her world, we all be blind.

I want to begin a thread and I invite all poets and writers who want to join to write something based on this theme. This is the month we celebrate Autism Awareness. I'm a teacher in a Special Ed elementary school and I serve children from the age of 3 to 10 with this condition or spectrum of conditions. They are special in every way and I say it in the best meaning of that word. We try and sometimes force them to make them act, talk or be like us as if us were better. We are the ones limited, who doesn't understand the way they think or act and mark it as incorrect. Everyone is a different world, and unique. The norm is not always the correct way.

There's a quote that says "If a kid doesn't learn in the way we teach, teach him in the way he learns".
