Free Verse to The Bright Moon

108 14 5

Tonight,
autumnal night
the wind swirls up fallen leaves
that go dancing
over the still moistened pavement
after the afternoon showers
petrichor...

Palm trees
sentinels over sand and sea
Straight up to meet the starry sky
Ruffled green hats
gently waving to the breeze
the ocean murmurs...

Above the brick turrets
decayed chimneys
of the abandoned
sugar cane central
time halts
while the cotton clouds pass by
clearing skies...

In the background,
the music plays
allegro tunes
that lift the spirits
and put a smile
on my face
happiness...

The moon
is brighter than ever
yet never brighter than your eyes.
