Chapter Twenty-One: Nancy

Luckily, I managed to eat the apples, but the water proved to be pretty challenging. I held the apple in between my knees, then took tiny bits. I tried many times to open the water bottles, but it was completely impossible.
My stomach was still rumbling. If Deirdre brought me breakfast, maybe she would bring me lunch, too.
I have been here for almost a day, since I arrived last night. The only thing that kept me occupied was thinking about my friends and family. Especially Ned. I hoped he wasn't too worried. Or my Dad. He was normally worse about this stuff.
I heard the sound of a car engine and perked up. Maybe I would get lunch. Maybe Deirdre decided to let me go. Maybe it wasn't even Deirdre. Maybe it was a someone who could rescue me.
I heard the engine stop and a car door slam. Looks like I would find out.
