"Hello?"

"Am I speaking to Miss.Hart?"

"Yes, Roseanne speaking."

"Miss.Hart, I am from Arnold holdings Inc. I belive you had sent your application for seeking a job in our firm?"

"Yes I did , I sent it the day before yesterday."

She held her breath until the person on the other side spoke

"Am sorry Miss.Hart, but your qualification does not comply with the job requierments. Your application is rejected."The woman on the other side said in a strict business like tone.

"Uhh,  is there any other job that would suit my qualification?"

"Am sorry Ms.Hart, there are no vacancies for other jobs in our firm."

"Okay,..thank you."

And the line went blank.
Roseanne stared at her phone and all she felt was dejection and rejection. She quickly switched her phone off and placed it next to her coffee mug  on the steps of her porch where she was seated.

It has been only a week since she moved to New Bern. She applied for a job at a respectable firm here when she was back in California thinking that she could start off working as soon as she settled, so that she need not be left alone in her new house with her past eating her up, but luck doesn't seem to favour her anytime soon. Roseanne sighed and took the mug of coffee and started sipping it. She leaned her head slowly onto the railing and closed her eyelids.

The image of her family's grave stones appeared in front of her eyes. It seemed like yesterday. But that's the trick of memories, isn't it?, whether happy or sad, they always seem as though they occured yesterday.

A lone tear escaped from the corner of her eyes and vanished down her neck. It has been 10 years, 10 long painful years since that unfortunate night. Yet, she remembers how she lost all of her family that day. Her loving mother , father and her elder sister were taken away from her forever ,once and for all leaving nothing to hold on. It was hard for her to recover from the past,  the past which haunted her every single day till today. Even though she was brave and strong, all her determination to start fresh came tumbling down when she would look at anything that made her remember her old happy days with her family. She lived in a small house.  It was her fathers old property. It had a kitchen, hall and a room with an attached bathroom. She had unpacked all her stuff and arranged it neatly to there respective places within three days with a hope of getting to start off with her new job which just came tumbling down a few minutes back . She always tried to keep herself busy.

The Roseanne before the death of her family was never the one to be desperate to keep herself busy. She always loved to bask in her laziness, and very often would face the fury of her dear mother. Her mother never tolerated laziness. But now, Roseanne knew better than to stick to her old self. She set up her house within 3 days and from that day on she made it a habit to sit on her porch every evening and watch the world in front of her unravel itself. She would feel the warmth of the sun hit her skin with gentleness and would watch the birds flying away to there homes to feed there young ones or to build a new home for themselves.

When the sun started to slip away giving place for darkness ,Roseanne got up from her porch and went into her house locking the door behind her. She entered her kitchen and spilt the half filled cup of coffee into the basin. She started making a sandwich for dinner.
After eating her sandwich with great difficulty, Rose drank a glass of water and sat on her small leather couch. Leaning her head back, she closed her eyes because of exhaustion and pain and once again the darkness behind her eyelids carried her off to a distant memory she shared with her family.
