Chapter Twenty-Two

I turned the corner, I was about five blocks from my house now. I was headed to Lulu's cafe for my date with Eric. I was excited about it, but then again something was telling me that there was something wrong about him.

I looked at my watch, it was five minutes until five, so I began speed walking. I turned right on East Oak street, and saw the cafe ahead. Lulu's cafe is a small cafe, that only sells snack food.

I hurried my way down the street, hoping he was already there. Once I got closer I started to slow down. I looked around for Eric and spotted him at the back of the cafe, he was whispering to someone I couldn't see. As I walked up to him, he saw me, and quickly ran up to me.

"I've been waiting for you." He said with a smile, as he hugged. I hugged him back, so it wouldn't be awkward.

"I'm on time." I replied, looking at my watch.

"I was still waiting." He pulled away from the hug.

"Who were you talking to?" I asked him.

"I wasn't talking to anyone." He said, turning away from me.

"But I thought I saw you talking to someone." I began to follow him into the cafe.

"I wasn't, I have no idea what your talking about." He said as we sat down at a booth.

I knew what I had saw, but I didn't know why he was lying to me. I slowly sat down across from him.

"So, how was your day?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"It was prefect, and your's?" He said.

"Pretty good." I replied, as the waitress came to our table. She was skinny, with black hair, and way too much make-up on.

"May I get you two anything?" She asked.

"Two coffees, please." Eric replied. The woman scribbled on her notepad and hurried away.

"How's your life at home?" Eric asked me.

"Uh, okay." I replied.

"Nothing important?" He asked.

I just shook my head, as I listened to the waitress pour the coffee.

"Oh." He sounded disappointed.

The waitress came back with two coffees, I grabbed mine, and filled the silence by added cream and sugar to it.

Once I added it, I began to sip the hot liquid.

"You know your very pretty." He said.

"Uh, thanks." I didn't know why, but the comment was strange.

"We should tell each other all of our secrets." He said to me.

"What?" I said choking on my coffee.

"Just so we can trust each other better." He chuckled.

"Uh, I don't think I'm ready for that." I said.

"Uhm, okay." He sounded mad.

We sat there in silence for quite a while. When I looked at him he looked like he was thinking.

All of a sudden as I sat my coffee down he leaned over and kissed me. It was a forced kiss, not the kind of kiss I would of thought it would be.

When he pulled away, all I could do was stare at him.

"Anna, I really want you to trust me." He paused, waiting for me to speak. When I didn't he went on. "I feel like if I know your secrets I'll know more about you."

I didn't know why he wanted to know my secrets so bad, but I wasn't telling him.

I stood up. "I have to go." I said, throwing a couple of bucks on the table, then hurrying out of the cafe. It was the worst date of my life.
