The broken and fragile

Part 18: No way

The fact that she was touching me herself with out me asking or anything had me smiling and relaxing into her as well. My head dropping onto her shoulder as I breathed in her scent. Somehow it calmed my heart as it made it race at the same time. If that made any sense.

"I'll be back." I heard the doctor say his voice sound slightly stuffed which wasn't surprising with his damaged nose. Scarlet tensed against me for moment as the doctor spoke but I squeezed her softly which made her relax again.

I couldn't believe how comfortable she was right now, it was just amazing. I unwrapped one arm and rested my hand on top of hers that was holding my arm. Her head tilted down slightly probably to look at it but she never tensed up at all so I took that as the okay.

Softly I rubbed my hand down to her elbow and back up to her arm. I could feel the goosebumps growing on her flesh but knew it wasn't from being cold which earned yet another smile to my face.

I couldn't be happier that I got her back. Even better she seems to be rather comfortable with me. It just keeps getting better and better. I let out a breath blowing her hair slightly. This was how it was supposed to be. Me holding her, protecting her. And her leaning in to me, accept it, me.

It took about twenty minutes for the doctor to come back in.

I was sat on Scarlet's bed now with my arms still securely around her. She was leaning back to lay on me while she rested. Every once in a while I would start rubbing her arm again a few times. Not once had she tensed up with me and I just couldn't believe it, this was perfect.

When the doctor walked in she tensed up a little and I was happy it wasn't because of me. I started rubbing her arm again making her relax almost instantly. After making sure she was okay I looked away from her to the doctor. "What's up?"

He looked down at his clipboard flipping through a few pages quickly before responding. I couldn't help but notice the bandage going across his nose. "She can leave but her muscle are probably weak from sleeping for so long. So keep her on bed rest but try working on getting her to move a bit to work on her muscle strength. Other than that your'e all good to go." 

Well at least we didn't have to stay in this room anymore. I swear the whiteness was effecting my eyesight.

It took about an hour to have Scarlet signed out and brought back to my room. She seemed calmer here. Her guard wasn't up as much and I'm glad to say that when I tried to leave the room she grabbed my hand and shook her head as if to tell me no. 

I had Grant bring her up some food. He smiled at her softly and she tensed up but not as much as she did with the doctor so at least there was that. She was making great progress so maybe I wouldn't have to try as hard as I thought but that wouldn't stop me.

She hasn't smiled again but the image of her smile was still forever imprinted o my brain. 

I was currently holding one of her legs. Bending it up to her body and stretching it back out to help with her muscles. She let out a silent yawn and probably thought I didn't see it but I did. I put her leg back down and sat next to her. She reached out to hold me hand and I accepted it instantly. 

"You should get some rest." She squeezed my hand tightly after I spoke and from the look on her face I could guess she was scared. "I'll be right here the entire time I'm not going anywhere." 

She relaxed at my statement and made herself comfortable before she fell asleep quickly. She was obviously really tired but wasn't showing it.

There was no way I would leave her side. I reached out and brushed some hairs off from her face and smiled as she leaned into my touch. 

Yea, no way.
