Jasper Hale has always struggled with his bloodlust. The Cullens, his family, have managed to live peacefully on a diet of animal blood, but for Jasper, it's always been a battle. Keeping control around humans is a constant challenge, and school projects that require close interaction with classmates only make it harder.

But when he's paired with Brandon Weber, the seemingly quiet, nerdy brother of Angela Weber, something completely unexpected happens: Jasper doesn't feel the usual surge of bloodlust. In fact, Brandon's scent is... completely absent. It's as if his blood-his very essence-is undetectable.

At first, Jasper thinks it's a fluke, a mere coincidence, but as they spend more time together, he realizes that the attraction he feels for Brandon goes far beyond curiosity. This isn't just about being a human around him. Brandon is something else.

Brandon, for his part, has always had an impeccable memory-he can recall any detail from the thousands of books he's devoured over the years, and when he first saw the Cullens, one thing stood out to him: Jasper Hale.
