After Sam Uley's transformation and the aftermath of his broken engagement, the pressure of leadership and the pack weighs heavily on him. The balance of La Push feels increasingly fragile, especially with the lingering tension between the Quileutes and the mysterious vampires that occasionally wander near their land. When Sam catches wind of a vampire scent near the Rez, he doesn't hesitate to investigate, ready to protect his people at all costs.
But when he tracks the vampire down in the woods, he's not prepared for what he finds. Renato Acosta stands before him, his red eyes unmistakably showing the signs of a vampire who has fed on humans.
