"No, definitely not." Suki chuckled. It was 11am. She had been unable to get proper sleep now she was almost due. She had four weeks to go. Four weeks and it would be over. "I wish these braxton hicks would go away." Her eyes squinted closed as she breathed deeply, a pain rushing through her. He looked over at her, concerned as he stirred the two mugs in front of him.
"You've still got them?" He questioned as he sat down next to her, passing her the cup of hot tea. He had been watching her closely for the past several weeks on their midwifes orders. They could take no chances as she was high risk.
"Yeah, it kept me awake most of the night." She took a sip of the hot liquid as she allowed herself to relax, the hot liquid burning the back of her throat in a soothing manner, almost forgetting about the pain radiating in her pelvis.
"How about I run you a hot bath?" He suggested. He had been so helpful to her, he just knew how to make her feel better. Suki was rather grateful for this. She almost felt like she was incapable of everything now her bump had doubled in size.
"That would be perfect, my love. Thank you" she paused for a moment, closing her book. "I think Hye-won is popping over here at some point today." She recalled the text message she had received a few days ago asking if it would be okay to come over. Suki knew she wanted to see the new house, but also make sure that everything was going smoothly for Suki.
"It will be nice to see her again. Let me go and get that started for you. You wait here." He disappeared out from the kitchen as she continued to sip on her tea, staring out into the garden as her mind showed visions of two children playing together there in warmer weather. Their faces were a blur, but she knew it would be her children. They had chosen right with this home. It was a forever place for them.
She felt the familiar pain again, shaking her from her daydream as she gripped onto the table for support. She hated this. She hated that this was the most painful thing she had experienced and it wasn't even proper contractions. There was absolutely no way she would be able to give birth if the pain was this bad. She remembered her midwife said to have short walks every so often to keep everything moving right. She decided to stand up, walking slowly towards the stairs as she made her way to the bathroom, climbing each stair one by one as she gripped the banister.
He walked out into the hallway, startled by her sudden presence as the pain had finally eased. "It's all ready for you." He held out his hand as he helped her to the bathroom, undressing her carefully. Their lips met softly as he did so, gentle and caring. He pulled away the moment she was undressed, giving her a soft smile. "I'll be downstairs." He began to walk but she reached for his hand, stopping him in his tracks.
He could read her face this time. Something was worrying her. "In-ho, will you stay here with me?" She asked softly.
"Of course, my love." She stepped into the hot water as she let out a deep sigh, allowing the steam to relax her. He must have also used a lavender bubble bath — her favourite. "When was your last braxton hick?" He questioned. He knew this was bothering her. He was sat on the stool next to the bath tub, gently stroking her hair as she leaned back into his touch.
"Just before I came upstairs." She spoke. He looked concerned, like the hours of neonatal classes they had attended had taught him enough to know this wasn't right.
"Suki, are you sure that you're not in labour? That seems pretty close together for it to just be a fake contraction." Labour. She never even thought about the possibility. They were still several weeks away from their due date. And she wanted those babies in her for as long as possible to avoid any complications.
