THE PAIR SAT in the waiting room of the doctor's office as Suki bounced her leg up and down anxiously, trying to calm her nerves. An unsettling feeling ran through her body as she took a deep breath. "Hey, everything's going to be okay." In-ho reached for her hand as he gave her a light squeeze. She has been unsettled ever since they had walked into the building. She didn't like the clean smell, the way she could see her reflection in the floors. It reminded her of old times. Times she didn't want to remember.
"Park Yeong-suk." A female doctor called her name as she carried a clipboard. Suki stood up, walking over to the lady, In-ho following close behind. "I'm sorry, it says here you prefer to be called Suki. Please follow me, I'm Dr Kang." Suki and In-ho followed the doctor down the corridor as they were taken into a room that looked even cleaner than the waiting room they had been in. "Please take a seat."
"Thank you." Suki gave a forced smile as she sat on the chair next to the doctor's desk, In-ho sat next to her. She watched as the doctor typed away on her computer as she brought up her patient file.
"I can see you've had a positive pregnancy test, is that correct?" Dr Kang turned to her as she nodded.
"Yeah, I took a test last Friday." She recalled.
"Okay. So I just need to confirm a few details with you and then we can talk next steps." Suki nodded at the doctor. "When was your last period?" She asked.
"Six weeks ago." Suki responded. She could feel In-ho's gaze on her as the doctor typed down her answer.
"And what is your usual cycle length?" The doctor looked up at her as she finished typing.
"28 days." Suki said as she did some math on her fingers. It was the same every month for her.
"Let me just work this out for a second." The doctor smiled as she clicked into a system. "It looks like your due date will be around the 20th of February but this will be confirmed at your first scan." Suki grinned. It was real, it was happening. "Now, is this dad?" The doctor looked at In-ho.
"Yeah, that's me." In-ho smiled.
"Great." She scrolled through Suki's file for a second. "I can see you've been pregnant in the past, is that correct?" Her heart sank. She didn't want to remember that right now, not here.
