The one time I didn't follow an order...I should of stayed in the room.

Jared's POV

I stood firmly on all fours panting heavily while I tried to catch my breath. Running half way across my large territory and taking out a group and fairly strong rouges took a little bit out of me. But I wasn't the only one winded as Ben, Grant, and Aiden were standing by my side panting just as hard. I swiped my tongue out and licked my nose to dampen it slightly as my heavy breathing was drying it up.

"Okay let's head back make sure everyone's save" I mind linked my men that were with me turning my back to head home, to Scarlet. I started heading out and heard them following but didn't make it a few feet before I was stopped abruptly.

"WAIT!!" Grant screamed through the mind link for some damn reason. I turned back around my hair perking up a little at my irritation at being stopped while I let out a quite growl. "What?!" I demanded of Grant but he just stood there staring off.

Ben, Aiden, and I watched as his face grew panicked. It was hard to tell from his wolf features but the smell that came off him showed me his emotions quickly. And him panicking as he stared at the dead bodies of the rouges before us had me on edge. "What is it Grant?!" I demanded of him more urgently needing to know the problem. I took a step towards him after he didn't answer me and my movement managed to break him out of whatever thoughts he was having.

He stared at me for a moment before speaking. "...There's only seven rouge bodies" He said his voice in a slight quiver. I growled at his obvious statement my irritation growing by the second. "I can clearly see that what of it?" I was getting tired of his antics quickly.

He glanced between me and the mangled bodies a few times for speaking up again "Alpha....The report said nine rouges passed the border line." At his deceleration I became just as panic as he was.

I turned my head back into the direction of the house while the new information quickly sunk in. "SHIT!" I didn't bother keeping my full Alpha tone out of that one word which had Grant, Ben, and Aiden know just how serious this situation actually was.

I took off towards the house in a sprint, the guys were right on my tail but were losing me as I ran as fast as I could, leaving them behind. My body coiling, both my hind and front legs retracting to my body before I kicked off on the ground with my hind legs jumping over a fallen tree. My front paws digging into the ground as I landed again, but not slowing down the slightest.

God I hope Scarlet's okay, I hope she stayed in the room. I should of left a guard with her. Everyone was either holed up in their own rooms or houses while the rest were patrolling the border for any other intruders. I just kept hoping that the two other rouges had left the territory as I made my way to the house.

I made it in under half the time it should of took me skidding to a stop in front of the door making some dirt patches un-earth as I used my claws to abruptly stop my fast pace run.

All the hope that I had in me quickly disperses from my body when I catch Scarlet's honey like beautiful, intoxicating scent. But it's mixed with the rotting stinking scent of rouges. The smell was to obvious as rouges rarely bathed at all.

All the hairs on my body stood to attention as my rage boiled over me at the fact that not only did they touch my mate, but they took her. I raced off at an even faster pace then before in the direction they went. Opposite of where I just came from, which meant that the guys weren't going to be of any help if they didn't catch up soon.

But I didn't care if I had to take on the two rouges myself, even if they were stronger then normal pact wolves since they live in the wilderness with no rules. They literally fight to survive making them cruel and rugged.

I let out a howl to let Scarlet know I was coming, her scent growing stronger telling me I wasn't far. Sticks and leaves were kicked up as I ran. Brushing past trees, swerving at times as to not run into them. My canines exposed the entire  time in a permanent snarl. How dare they try to take my beloved from me.

I would take them on to safe my mate, even if it killed me.
