I like him.

It hit me in the middle of the night, long after I had tossed and turned in bed, after I had replayed every single moment from tonight in my head.

After I had stared at the stupid pink bear sitting on my nightstand for far too long.

I liked him.

Jake Sim. The boy I had spent my entire life claiming to hate. The boy who got on my nerves more than anyone else. The boy who—despite all of that—had somehow managed to make a home inside my thoughts, completely rent-free.

And the scariest part?

I had liked him for a while.

I had just been too stubborn, too afraid, to admit it.

Because if I admitted it, then it became real. And if it became real, then it meant there was a chance it could all go horribly wrong.

But tonight, watching him walk away after winning me a stupid plushie—it had finally broken me.

I was done lying to myself.

I was done pretending.

And more than anything, I was done ignoring him.

The next morning, I walked into school with a plan.

"Okay, what's up with you?" Minji asked as we headed toward our lockers.

I turned to her. "What do you mean?"

"You're smiling."

I blinked. "I smile."

"Yeah, but not like this," Minji said, narrowing her eyes. "This is different."

I shrugged. "Maybe I'm in a good mood."

Minji gasped. "Oh my god. Is this about Jake?"

I didn't answer.

Her jaw dropped. "It is about Jake."

I rolled my eyes. "Relax."

"No, because you've been avoiding him all week, and now you're suddenly—wait." She paused. "Wait."

I sighed. "Minji—"

"You like him," she accused, pointing at me.

"Lower your voice," I muttered, glancing around.

She grabbed my shoulders. "You like him."

"Okay, fine! Yes!" I threw my hands up. "Are you happy?"

Minji let out a noise that was somewhere between a squeal and a scream.
