I was officially losing my mind.
Because ever since that night—ever since Jake had said he liked me, ever since his voice dipped just slightly lower than usual, just enough to make my stomach flip—I couldn't stop thinking about him.
And worse?
I was actually enjoying it.
I was no longer dodging his texts. No longer shutting him down just for the sake of it. No longer pretending that my heart didn't trip over itself whenever he so much as looked at me.
I was flirting back.
And Sim Jaeyun?
He was eating it up.
"You're staring at me, princess."
I blinked.
Jake was sitting across from me in the courtyard, smirking like he'd just caught me doing something illegal. His tie was loose around his neck, his sleeves were rolled up, and he had that look in his eyes—the one that always meant trouble.
I scoffed, stabbing my fork into my food. "No, I'm not."
He leaned forward on his elbows. "You sure?"
I narrowed my eyes. "You wish I was staring at you."
Jake hummed. "You are staring at me, though."
I clenched my jaw.
Okay, maybe I had been staring a little. But that was only because he was annoyingly good-looking. Not because I actually liked him.
...Right?
Minji, who was sitting next to me, glanced between us with barely-contained amusement. "I'm loving this new development, by the way."
I turned to her, exasperated. "There's no new development."
Jake propped his chin on his hand. "Sooah flirts with me now."
I choked. "I do not—"
"Yeah?" He tilted his head, amused. "Then what was that thing you said earlier? Something about me wishing you were staring? That definitely sounded like flirting."
I opened my mouth. Closed it.
Minji gasped. "Wait. Are you blushing?"
I was blushing.
Oh my god.
Jake grinned, looking way too satisfied. "Cute."
I whipped my head toward him, ready to wipe that stupid smirk off his face, but before I could say anything, he reached over—casual as ever—and flicked a strand of hair behind my ear.
