The winter festival was over.

But the problem was... I still felt stuck in it.

In that moment.

In that stupid heartbeat between when Jake had pulled me close and when he should've let go but didn't.

I'd spent years convincing myself that he was just annoying. That he was just my brother's best friend. That he was just a part of my life that I had to tolerate.

But now, whenever I closed my eyes, I didn't see the cocky, insufferable Jake that I had known.

I saw the warmth in his gaze. The way his fingers tightened around my wrist before settling at my waist. The way he had looked at me—like I was something fragile.

And that pissed me off.

Because I didn't want to be fragile.

And I sure as hell didn't want to think about Sim Jaeyun.

So I did what any rational person would do.

I ignored him.

Not completely—just enough to make it seem like nothing was wrong.

I still sat near him when we were with our friends, still played along when we needed to. But I kept my distance.

I never let our hands brush when we walked. I avoided eye contact for too long when he spoke to me. And when Minji teased me about whatever this thing was, I laughed it off and changed the subject.

But Jake wasn't an idiot.

I could feel the way he was watching me. Like he was waiting for me to crack.

Like he knew.

I should've known he'd eventually confront me.

It happened after school, when everyone else had already left. I had forgotten my scarf in the library, and when I turned back to grab it, Jake was already leaning against the hallway wall, waiting.

Arms crossed. Expression unreadable.

I sighed. "What now?"

Jake raised a brow. "Are you seriously asking that?"

I feigned confusion. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

His jaw ticked. "You've been weird ever since the festival."
