The next few days were weird.

Not bad. Not awkward. Just... different.

Jake was still annoying. Still cocky. Still had that stupid, infuriating smirk on his face whenever he looked at me.

But now, there was something else beneath it.

A quiet kind of patience. A softness that hadn't been there before. Like he was waiting for me to realize something—something he already knew.

And the worst part?

I felt it.

I felt it in the way my heart picked up speed whenever he got too close. In the way my gaze lingered a little too long on him when he wasn't looking.

In the way my mind kept replaying that moment outside my house—the way his eyes had darkened when I kissed his cheek, the way he had just stood there, watching me like I had just rewritten the universe.

But I didn't like him.

I didn't.

I was just... confused.

That's all it was.

Right?

"You know, for someone who claims to hate Jake, you sure do look like you're thinking about him a lot."

Minji's voice pulled me out of my thoughts, and I blinked, realizing I had been absentmindedly stirring my drink for the past five minutes without taking a single sip.

We were sitting in a café near school, just the two of us. She had insisted on getting coffee after class, claiming she needed to hear all the details about my "date."

I scowled. "I don't think about him a lot."

Minji raised an eyebrow. "You didn't even deny that you were thinking about him just now."

Damn it.

"I wasn't thinking about him," I said quickly, taking a sip of my drink.

Minji just smirked. "Mhm. Sure."

I exhaled sharply, setting my cup down. "Can we talk about something else?"

"Fine." She leaned forward on her elbows. "What are you wearing for the winter festival next weekend?"

I blinked. "The what?"

Minji groaned. "Sooah. The winter festival. The one we go to every year?"

Oh. That winter festival.
