"Where am I?"
Ashton looked around himself as he stood within the endless void. He couldn't hear Kit. He didn't know if this was something Omni had done or if he had just straight up broken reality.
"Wait- who's that?"
Huh? YOU CAN HEAR ME?! OH MY GOD FINALLY.
"Who are you?"
I'm known as The Witness. I pretty much just tell the stories of your timelines to others. I'm basically a narrator.
"It sounds like you're a-"
God? Yeah. Pretty much.
"And I can hear you...how exactly?"
That's a good question, I haven't exactly gotten that far into reading yet. Even the last version of you to gain complete sentience like this couldn't hear me. But he could see the guy writing about your stories.
"Writing about my stories?"
Yeah- it's a complicated thing about the multiverse. In one universe, everything may be real, but in another universe, it may just be a seemingly fictional story being written.
"That's-"
Scary? Confusing? I understa-
"Fascinating."
You're taking this better than expected.
"I mean why wouldn't I?"
Well the last time something like this happened, you freaked out and broke through the barriers of time, reality, space, and all of that to try to kill the guy who wrote your story in one universe.
"What happened to them?"
Both lived. One was reborn and created into another universe and the other gained some cool abilities in his own timeline which should be impossible.
"That's weird."
I know.
"So...what's happening."
Well, let's see here. It says...ahem. Just clearing my throat really quick.
Ashton wanders around the dark abyss for a moment, trying to find anyway out of this endless nightmare.
.
.
.
"What?"
I'll give you a warning. You're about to see everything. And I mean everything. Every event that has ever happened across all 8 timelines. It won't show me what will happen to you. It hasn't done this before. You won't hear me and I don't know if you'll live or die so...are you ready?
"I've got no other choice."
.
.
.
Ashton takes a deep breath as he prepares himself. There's no going back from here. As he shook at the oncoming inevitability, he remembered what Kit had said to him.
"You were the best one. Remember that."
If he survived, he knew he would have to prove Kit right.
and then...it hit him.
every memory. every version of him. every event. everything hit ashton at once. he could see everything.
how kit fought omni in the first timeline, dying as he restarted everything,
how the phoenix spirit fought omni in the next timeline, rising from the ashes.
how he arrived in the third timeline, then named [REDACTED]. he just pressed a literal reset button on the top of a mountain and everything started over.
how the fourth timeline ended with his dying breath pushing him to reset everything to stop carolyn craig.
how his killing of alisha in the fifth timeline had more aftereffects than either of them could have ever anticipated.
how the sixth timeline brought everyone together in a war for redemption and how raven used callidora's candle to make one last wish: start over for the seemingly final time.
how the last timeline ended with their victory...and somehow their defeat. somehow, everything reset again, and it drove him mad. it drove him to fight the writer in another timeline.
he saw the war of the looking glass. he saw ramos vs grimes and he saw [REDACTED] grimes' final defeat.
he saw the creation of this timeline. he saw the birth and death of this universe and many others. he saw that the cycle was going to just keep repeating over and over again.
and he just began to cry. solace was never an option. a happy ending did not exist. a universe where everyone was still alive, where everyone was happy, it didn't exist.
.
.
.
But he cried with a smile on his face. He cried because despite everything that had been thrown at him, he felt like he had found a way to enjoy elements of it. He found a way to feel joy in a world where it was meant to dissuade all hope of feeling joy.
It made him feel alive.
"Thats it..."
It made him feel like he could fight.
"I know what to do..."
It made him feel like-
"I can take it from here."
crack.
.
.
.
CRASH.
Omni looked up in the sky as she saw a complete break in reality. The sky had just broken off into a void and floating out of it was Ashton Grimes.
"What the hell..."
Ashton took a deep breath as he locked eyes with Omni. Everything had been leading up to this. This one moment in time. This one shot to change everything. Destiny and Fate had all led to this.
"Narrator. I can still hear you."
Oh- sorry.
"No. Thanks for the introduction but like I said."
Snap.
.
.
.
Ashton snapped his fingers and the break was fixed.
"I can take it from here."
Yes you can kid. Yes you can.
