Raven Jiwe opened her eyes. She was in a nice dress for once and she was walking into school.
"Why was I here again?.."
"Raven!"
She turned and saw Mercedes Rodriguez. Mercedes was Raven's best friend, being one of the few people that Raven saw as more than tolerable. It helped a bit that Raven thought she was cute too and had the huge ass crush on her.
"Mercedes!"
Mercedes was one of the few people Raven seemed energized around. Her usual half-asleep nature almost disappeared around her.
"Come on! The dance is about to start."
"Wait- Dance? I don't remember this being a dance."
Mercedes walked over to Raven and grabbed her hand.
"Did you forget that you asked me to Prom-"
.
.
.
Mercedes just laughed a bit while Raven stared off into the distance in sheer embarrassment.
"Damn Callidora..."
.
.
.
weird.
"Come On! Let's go!"
Mercedes led Raven into the gymnasium where everything was happening.
Everyone was dancing, talking, just having fun. Hell, even Mercedes started to get into it while Raven just stared in awe. She always felt weird around Mercedes. She felt more energized, there were butterflies in her stomach, she just felt...happy.
After a bit, the music shifted and Mercedes grabbed Raven's hand.
"Are you ready?"
"No. Absolutely not."
"Oh- ok."
.
.
.
"But...I'll still do it."
A huge grin came upon Mercedes' face as the two began to dance together. Despite Raven claiming she wasn't ready, the two were in shocking sync. It was as if they had practiced this or something.
And they were laughing. They were both smiling from ear to ear. They were having fun. Everything was going well and for a second, Raven just let go and went into the mindscape.
.
.
.
"Callidora?"
.
.
.
nothing.
"Calli?"
.
.
.
nothing.
"Where a-"
Raven suddenly had a flashback. Everything came to her. The battle. The banshee scream where she broke reality. It all flooded back. Everything began to flood back as she returned to the present.
"Raven? What's wrong?"
Mercedes stared at Raven, who looked like she had seen a ghost.
"This...this isn't real."
"What do you mean?"
"You. You're not real."
"Raven...are you okay?"
Everyone began to stare at her. She heard the mutters and mumbles.
"What's wrong with her?"
"Is she okay?"
"Why is she acting so weird?"
Their words weren't what was getting to her.
"Callidora?!"
.
.
.
"CALLIDORA?!"
.
.
.
she didn't have a real shoulder to lean on. she was on her own this time.
"Raven calm down."
Mercedes walked over and put her hand on Raven's shoulder. Raven gasped because she realized something in that moment.
"No butterflies..."
.
.
.
Raven sprinted as fast as she could out of the gymnasium and ran out of the school. She needed to find answers. She needed to find out what was really going on here.
"Not liking this version? Here. Let's try another."
Raven saw timelines. Each one where she was happy.
Everyone was at the dinner table.
Everyone was watching Tanya's performance.
Everyone was watching Raven as she lived her life.
Everyone was watching Raven's wedding when she was older.
"It's okay to enjoy it all Raven. Just find one that you like. Find it."
Raven shook her head rapidly as everything was messing with her head.
Every joyous timeline.
Lies.
Everyone was alive.
Lies.
Everyone was happy.
Lies.
All Lies.
"ITS ALL LIES. GET OUT OF MY HEAD."
Raven felt her current memories slipping away from her as she just began to cry. She grasped her head, trying to hang on to it all as the area around her began to crumble and the endless abyss began to engulf her.
"Just. Be. Content."
.
.
.
raven's hand dropped.
and she screamed as loud as she could, using all of her anger, all of her sadness, every emotion she could in order to break reality again. she would hold on to the real memories if it was the last thing she did.
by the time she opened her eyes, she was back in that white void where she and omni had spoken so many times before.
