Present day (October 29th, 2019)

Victoria Greenwood

Niall told me the whole story, his voice getting sadder and breaking more and more as he continued talking.

Nate ended Niall's footballer career.

I couldn't help but feel incredibly bad for Niall. By the way he was speaking, I could tell it still hurts him intensely to talk about this.

I can't imagine how he felt today after seeing Nate for the first time after that.

Once he finished telling me everything, I noticed a couple of tears streaming down his face.

I've never seen him cry before.

"Niall, I'm so sorry." I told him, and hugged him tightly.

"I'm sorry for this." He said in a sad tone.

"No, don't be. It's okay. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for you. You should be proud of yourself for being where you are now." I told him, looking at him.

"I still think it is embarrassing." He sighed.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Not being able to recover. I did everything I could, and it still wasn't enough. It couldn't be that hard." He said.

"It's not your fault, Niall. You shouldn't be ashamed, Nate is the one that should be." I told him. "Think about how strong you have to be for going through all of that and not giving up until the last day."

"You're right I guess." He replied.

"Try not to think about it now. Go wash your face, we should be going to our seats already. We'll talk about this later, when we have more time." I told him.

"Okay." He said.

"Wait a second." I told him.

He looked at me, still sitting on the chair.

I held his face and gave him a little kiss on the cheek. "Now you can go." I said, smiling.

"Thanks." He smiled, his cheeks turning slightly red, and stood up to walk to the bathroom.

"Clean the lipstick!" I whispered at him, but loud enough so he could hear me.

He looked at me again, laughed nervously, and touched his cheek. "I will, thank you." He smiled.

I redid my lipstick while I waited for him, using my phone's camera as a mirror.

A few minutes later, he was back.

"Ready for it, gentleman?" I asked, and stood up.

"Let the games begin, sweetheart." He replied, with a smirk on his face.
