Part 8//Waiting for Nothing

Kat's pov 

"Why do you do this to yourself?" Mitch asked. I sighed, "it-it's complicated" 

Marti's pov

I made self comfortable in a small corner of the tree house. Jerome walked over to me, "Do you need any help getting your things organized?" He asked hopefully. "Uhh... can you find my dog bob?" I asked. "Sure" he went down the ladder and started looking, although I didn't want him to go. Sure enough he came back up with bob in his arms. I thanked him and slowly kissed him on the cheek. after that I quickly walked outside to the balcony. It was funny to think that we might be the only people left. I was just starring into space until Jerome came to the balcony I could feel his eyes looking at me. 

"Take a picture, it'll last longer." I said with a grin. He laughed and then we just talked about anything and everything. About  the virus, our families, ourselves, and just random stuff. I could feel the cool breeze of night approaching. "Well it's getting late, we should go inside and check on Kat and Mitch." He nodded and we walked inside. We saw Kat on Mitch's lap asleep. One of Mitch's arms on her waist and the other stroking her hair. I could tell they were happy, but a small part of me still didn't like Mitch. Probably because he was touching my best friend, but I guess we'll never know.

Mitch's pov

"Hey guys." I said looking at them. Jerome said hey but Marti just kept looking at the hand that was on Kat's waist. I got the message and quickly moved it away. I cold tell Jerome liked Marti by the way he looked at her. Kat awoke and got up. It was about eight, so we all gathered in a circle and started talking. 

"Do you think there are more immune people out there?" Marti said. "Only one way we can find out." said Jerome. "Is this how we are gonna live forever. Just in a tree house waiting for nothing?" Kat said. We all just sat in silence for a while. "Well, I'm bored. Lets go explore the forest!" Marti exclaimed. "But it's dark out." Jerome said with worry. "Don't be such a wuss, let's go!" Kat said excitedly. Me having no say in this, we went.
