Our children will never know
What carrying a full suitcase is like
Because they won't have all of the trauma to carryThey will not grow up in a house
Where mistakes lead to rage
And hurt turns into longstanding miseryOur children will believe
Having peace in a household is normal
And love should be given freely, not earnedI want to give them what I never had
The patience and kindness of an attentive mother
The comfort and warmth of an available parentI hope they never have to carry the burdens
children today carry
Because at the end of the dayWe are just kids.
