Avengers Bucky

Part 1/2

Summary: Bucky takes you ring shopping, but you're not the recipient of it...someone else is.

Content warning: Language, Bucky being oblivious, feelings/angst, reader not being the greatest at expressing their feelings, little fluff

"How about this one?" asked Bucky and you shrugged.

"This one then?" he pointed.

You nodded at his choice, giving him a thumbs up.

He gave you a funny look then shrugged.

"God, there's so many to choose from. I'm glad you're here to help me"

Bucky smiled brightly and patted your arm as he left your side and went to another counter. He was so excited; you didn't want to ruin his big day.

You plastered on a smile and looked at the display in front of you. Your heart sunk when you looked down at the counter. He was right, there was a lot to choose from.

Why am I here? I'd rather be laying injured and unconscious in the med bay than be here with Bucky.

You were dreading this day.

The day Bucky asked you to join him since Steve was going to be away on a mission. You had it marked in red on your calendar in your room with a frowny face sticker Nat stuck to it which made you giggle a little.

This was going to be your worst day ever.

You'd rather re-live that mission where you broke both legs than be standing with your best friend and mission partner while he shopped for an engagement ring for his girlfriend, who wasn't you, you bitterly thought while looking around the brightly lit store.

God I am an idiot. I waited too long to tell Bucky how I felt and that I loved him, and now it's too late. I have to live with my secret

Well, it's only a secret to Bucky as everyone else at the compound knows you're in love with him; even Gabe the security officer knows.

God Bucky could be so dense at times, but this is the mess you're in for not telling him your feelings sooner.

Bucky wandered throughout the store with a big smile on his face as the perky sales associate, Brenda, showed him rings of all shapes and sizes. He wandered back to you as you stood there like a statue, unable to move from the spot you initially stopped at.

"I don't know which one Jenny will like" he said looking deeply into your eyes.

You melted slightly at his intense and hopeful gaze.

You cleared your throat and looked away from those blue ocean orbs you had come to love gazing into.

You wandered over to a counter and looked down at the rings on their stands. You spied a single solitaire ring that sat off to the side.

It was beautiful.

Simple, elegant, something you would love to have on your left finger forever as you felt Bucky's presence as he stood next to you. You sighed looking at it. He looked at the case and you saw him smirk.

"This one"

He pointed to the ring you had your eye on.

Your heart sunk.
