There's only a tense silence between Amber and I

The passion and lust

The love and yearning

It's all flown down the drain

Not even my baby twins could bring us back together

"When are we going to tell them?" Amber asks turning a page noisily in her book

"When Lola is well again," I answer turning my back on her as I burrow Into the covers

"We've been putting this off for too long Chris," Amber replies

"For fucks sake Amber, my daughter just tried to kill herself!" I retort back angrily

The silence continues suffocating us and I try to muster the same feelings of allure and love from long ago

Nothing

Bone dry

Desert

Fucking nothing

There's a knock on the door before its opened

Lola is standing in her black satin night dress looking distressed

I'm immediately out of bed and throw my arms around her

"Do you want me to sleep with you tonight?" I ask softly stroking her hair

She nods her head

"I'll be there in five," I say and Lola shuts the door softly behind her

"You spoil her too much, you always have," Amber States bitterly

Turning around I glower at her my vision being clouded by confusion and anger

"How on earth did I marry you?" I say folding my arms across my shoulders

Amber's head snaps up from her book, her eyes wide with puzzlement

Before she says anything I leave the room to wrap my arms around Lola's shuddering waist and kiss her tears away
