Lola drops off to sleep in my arms as I close the book

Kissing her on her forehead I mumble goodnight

The house is suffocating from blue birthday decorations much to Lola's delight

I watched her gleefully twirling in the garden in her blue princess costume waving her wand

It was just me and her once more

She doesn't mind the sparse reception as long as I slather the attention on her

I sit on the foot of the stairs and bury my face in my hands and cry

Reaching in my pocket for my phone I dial the number I know off by heart

"Sorry this number is no longer available"

In an angry furious fit I throw my phone hard against the wall

How am I supposed to hear her voice?

What if I forget her?

Panic throttles me and I get up in a flurry and run out into the garden

The chill air nips at my skin as I gaze up at the starry sky through blurred tears

"Our baby girl is so beautiful babe, did you see her today? She's so fucking beautiful, so beautiful Nasha-," my voice crumbles and cracks when I say her name

I bite down hard on my knuckles to stop myself from crying out

I go back inside and make a temporary bed next to Lola's

"She's so beautiful," I mumble through a haze of fatigue
