GROANING, WHILE EAGERLY WAITING

"For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee." ~2 Corinthians 5:4-5

You went away to a far country
For you had been called
Away to the realm everlasting
To our Savior's courts & halls

And O, how I wish that I could follow
No more staying to face or enjoy tomorrow
Yet knowing my life that is authored
Must commit its end to the pen of our Father

It is tempting
When in this waiting
To be fretting
And forgetting
To wring my hands
And long for the eternal lands
Deaf to His voice and to His presence, blind
"My God, why didn't you call us all?
Why did you leave us behind?"

You, O God, moved Your servant
Philip, from place to place
And thus clear is the purpose
Of those who behind remain
To be continual apostles of Your grace

In a moment, You could will
Us raptured from this tempest tossed
But you are the captain at the till
And have called us to the lost

You have not destined me to pine
Over mysteries that are not mine
But to submit my loads and life
To You who alone are wise

Away from my understanding and fretting
I will turn to reflect with faith on Your blessing
To not spurn this seed You've planted
For the things which You have prepared
(For those who love You)
Eye cannot see, nor ear hear
Nor heart imagine

So, our brother, you have gone up to His mountain
And from this plain below, we must continue on
To fulfill our part, as you did, in His song
Until we meet again
