The Lord will Provide

Your whisper is a song to my heart
Filling me with peace inside
Like a seed lost in faith
Telling me, “The Lord will provide”

Though all I had and now have lost
Forgotten in the shadows of time
You redeemed by fulfilling the Cost
Declaring, “The Lord will provide”

The wind of Your Spirit blew
I knew not from where or why
And before my eyes my world unraveled
In tears I confessed, “The Lord will provide”

The castles and plans that I had built
Founded on my control and sight
Like grass and flowers they decay and wilt
Yet, not resentfully, do they declare: “The Lord will provide”

Working against the Truth I know
I fought against Your rest to be strong in might
Yet in Your mercy; you did not let me reap
What I had sown
You taught me to learn, “The Lord will provide”

I looked on in helpless estate
At the seeming success of worlds, outside
Yet by Your Word I came to see my fate
And rest in this: “The Lord will provide”

A wilderness it seemed I was kept
The Spirit's fire, I cried out for You to revive
Your Promises stood over me while I slept
Speaking in powerful tenderness
“The Lord will provide”

I walk through God's forests, by His rivers
Watching from the insects of earth to the birds of the sky
And the thought of this magnitude makes me quiver
In joy and song: “The Lord will provide”

Remember Father, when my star was bright
And became filled up with pride
Forgive me, O Lord; send Your cleansing light
According to Your Name; Jehovah Jireh
“The Lord will provide”

Look upon me in my distress
For I feel so far from Your truth
Yet, You have made me abound more
Then in the times of grain and wine
Thou, O Lord, will provide

Lord, remember my heart's desires
And the fulfillment I long to find
According to Your promise, by Your Spirit's fire
Answer my confession: “The Lord will provide”

For those days and nights, when I do not feel pleasing in Your eyes
By Your grace, may I run until I am found by Your side
And trust that though the seed, before fruit, must die
That You are faithful and that You will provide

Yet again, though the darkness seems strong
And everything once solid in my hand unravels
And flees and is tossed; shipwrecked by the waves of Your providence
Blown by the Breath of Your Spirit
Consumed by the fire of Your mystery and power
Or seeing many paths and doors, laid out before
Not knowing which way was wrong or right
What challenged my path; the depth or the height
Unsure of whether I was loving and kind
Afraid that I had lost Your pleasure by living by sight
And fleeing into the darkness of night
By years or by sin, my strength seemed lost to the fight
Despair upon despair; fear upon fear
Feeling alone and weeping; tear upon tear
Knowing not whether You were far or near
My prayers I had long forsaken; would You again hear?
Or the times of bitterness; broken again after being healed
Just when we needed You best, we were cast off and rejected
First by our Enemy, and then by our friend
O, had Your promise and grace finally come to an end?
Your Spirit in us strove against the lie
And with our enemies we scorned our own hearts that cried and beat against us
Asking, repeatedly, “Why?”
O the deep, deep pain and loss of it all!
The confusion, the unraveling, and the desolation!
We wandered and could not understand Your will and plan!
Selah

Then we climbed Your mountain
Bearing our most precious lambs
Wondering if ever we would see again
Your goodness in the land
We laid our dearest possession, that You had given us, at Your altar
Surrendering to You our love to die
Whispering in the stillness of Your presence, Father
“You will provide”

Then You sent Your Son
Your most precious lamb
To lift us from our knees
And cause us to stand
You took all these burdens
The shame and the weakness
And made us strong by Your grace
Through Your powerful love and meekness
You looked on our frame and took our place
Bearing the pain so that we might have joy
Your Truth broke and set us free
From every chain and lie
We were citizens, slaves of the night
And yet You washed us by Your sacrifice and clothed us in white
Salvation, not achieved by our power and might
But by this truth that endures all time
You lift up our face and pour on us Your strength and delight
Forever faithful
Your promise, fulfilling

“I, the Lord, will provide”
