If he knew it was coming, then he wouldn't really be surprised. He would kiss you back, not all that shocked but still happy you even looked his way.
If he didn't know, though, he wouldn't kiss you back right away. After a few seconds, he would. He was a little shocked, and teased you about to afterwards.
If he ever kissed you first, he would place his hands on your upper arms or your shoulders. Especially if your shorter. If you're taller, than he would place his hands on your forearm.
He wouldn't go any direction with the kiss if you or him were ever nervous.
