You inherited your Grandmother's quirk (from your mother's side), which was water manipulation. It was quite the strong quirk, but not what Enji needed. He wanted his and Rei's quirk, not some "downgrade" of it. You can control the temperature of it, making it freeze or boil (which you never did around Shoto so you didn't make him nervous.)
