Wei Wuxian. The teenager whose traumatic past and painful memories seeped into Gu Wei's soul with such force that he couldn't help but tear up when the events of Wei Wuxian's childhood started to affect him. The cruelty of the world and the abuse that the youth went through was unimaginable and left a bitter taste in the back of his throat that was impossible to swallow. It broke his heart to feel every emotion that Wei Wuxian kept hidden and bottled up inside of himself. Behind the sunshine bright personality was a broken soul, that craved to be loved and to be taken care of. As someone who was lucky enough to be raised in a sheltered life, Gu Wei never really face this kind of hardship and Wei Wuxian's memories were so overwhelming that it made it hard for him to breathe.

Lan Wangji stroke Gu Wei's back, letting the omega lean against him. "What's wrong?" He asked quietly.

"I remember... the childhood." Gu Wei said bitterly and took a deep breath before going further. His chest was already hurting. "It was... horrible." He paused and shuddered at what seemed like a distant memory. He closed his eyes and exhaled a shaky breath. He had never felt so vulnerable in his entire life. It was almost like someone tore apart all the walls that he built to protect himself and showed him a dark place he hadn't seen before. But at the same time, he felt like he didn't need any defenses anymore as the alpha's presence made him completely safe.

The words then flowed through his lips like a broken dam, telling Lan Wangji everything that plagued Wei Wuxian since his parents passing. Every word felt heavy and weighted down, but Lan Wangji held him close, rubbing circles over his back. At some points Lan Wangji tensed up as he listened to Gu Wei recount the events that happened in a low whisper. He didn't know that his Wei Ying had suffered something awful enough to scar him from the inside out. He pulled the omega closer into his embrace, hoping it would soothe the hurt that radiated off Gu Wei as he relived those moments in his head. It worked because Gu Wei slowly relaxed and allowed himself to breathe deeply after a few minutes.

"Sorry for dumping all this on you." Gu Wei muttered as he finally finished his story. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of embarrassment, realizing that his tears and possibly some snot had made a lovely mess on Lan Wangji's pristine white robe. But Lan Wangji remained as calm as a cucumber, not a single flicker of annoyance crossing his face. In fact, he even used his sleeve to gently wipe away Gu Wei's tears, his golden gaze filled with compassion. "You have nothing to be sorry for, Wei Ying." he said gently with full sincerity, "I'm here for you and always will be."

That was all Gu Wei needed to hear as he dove headfirst into the cozy cocoon of Lan Wangji's robes, feeling blessed that someone was there for him when he required it the most. "Thank you, Lan Zhan," he murmured, his voice muffled by the fabric.

Lan Wangji responded with a gentle hum, his soothing affirmation washing over Gu Wei like a comforting lullaby. In that moment, all his worries and doubts melted away, replaced by a warm sense of reassurance as the alpha just continued running soothing fingers through his hair.

Gu Wei didn't mind. In fact, he wouldn't want to let go. He didn't even realize when he fell asleep while clinging onto Lan Wangji who wrapped his long arms around him.

"Goodnight, Wei Ying," Lan Wangji said as gently placed their foreheads together.  In the depth of his heart, he vowed to protect his fated person with all of his might, no matter the cost.

The following morning, Gu Wei's eyes popped open, finding himself all wrapped up in Lan Wangji's protective embrace, like a human burrito. It was like waking up in the loving embrace of a cuddly teddy bear, if teddy bears could have six-pack abs. His poor eyelids, heavy from the torrential downpour of tears he had shed the previous night. It was as if he had become a living fountain, a never-ending source of waterworks. But hey, at least he had a cozy armchair to cry on, courtesy of Lan Wangji. Gu Wei couldn't help but to stare at the beautiful man in admiration and felt the overwhelming urge to kiss those plush lips. And he didn't know what possessed him to do it either. But somehow he found that his lips were moving on their own accord, pressing against Lan Wangji's mouth. It was like a reflexive action that wasn't his choice, like someone else had planted a seed of love within himself and he couldn't stop it growing.
