Tears welled in my eyes as I struggled to speak. "There's someone in my apartment," I whispered, my voice quivering. "He... he tried to attack me."

"Please calm down, Mam and stay on the line," the operator said, her voice unwavering. "We are here to help you. Can you tell me your address?"

I provided her the address in a trembling voice.

"Please, hurry."

The operator assured me that the help in on the way, offering comfort. But I was too scared to make out what she was saying. I could hear her speaking but the words weren't registering as my mind focused on any kind of sound that would tell me if he was near.

The operator kept on talking and the minute felt like hours.

I flinched when I heard my front door being banged open. The sound of several footsteps eased me, and I released the breath I didn't know I had been holding.

I covered my mouth and sobbed, relieved. I'm safe.

"The officers have entered your apartment, Everlee. They are securing the area. Stay where you are." The operator informed as I clung onto the phone, nodding.

After a few minutes as the footsteps eased, I heard a knock on my bathroom door. I got up with the help of the wall as my legs were shunned down and opened the door. The officer helped me down to the living room and seated me on the couch.

I was still trembling and shaken.

"We've searched the entire floor, but we didn't find anyone." The officer said.

"There's no sign of a break in or an intruder. Nothing seems to have been disturbed. Are you sure there was an intruder?" the officer asked, boring his eyes on me.

"He- he was there and he tried to attack me." I told him, holding onto my emotions so it doesn't gets mixed up with my ability to speak clearly while I can.

The officer looked at me with sympathy, "We checked the locks, they were untouched. This neighborhood is usually very safe and incidents like this are extremely rare."

My mind raced, my thoughts tangled with fear.

Could it have been my imagination? Did I hallucinate again? No, it can't be. Everything was too real for it to be a product of my imagination... he was too real.

"I know what I saw." I said, my anger and fear making my voice quiver. I felt so angry that I wanted to cry.

wanted to cry.

"Everlee."

I heard Cain rush into the living room, ignoring the officer's protest. But before the officers could stop him from entering any further, I rushed towards him.

I hugged him hard, absorbing his much-needed strength to get through this situation.

"Cain. Someone entered my apartment while I was sleeping and tried to attack me. But these officers don't believe me."
