"Twist it! Shake it shake it shake it, loop the loop—"

"Dad?" Trent asked, staring into the living room at his dad, dressed in a full chicken suit with rooster feathers.

"Oh, Trent, just the person I need!" Alex cried, and did a swivel in his costume. "Is this too much?"

"Yes," Trent answered, not even having to think about it.

Alex frowned. "Oh," he said slowly. "Hmm." An idea occurred to him, his face lighting up. "I've got it! Trent, will you—?"

"I don't think so," Trent murmured awkwardly.

"Just hear me out," Alex pleaded. "I've been offered a gig on Saturday night, it's called blues at the pub which is definitely code for blues brothers and I just thought…. Maybe we could both wear matching black suits?"

"Like that time we saw Men in Black together?" Trent asked hopefully.

"Yeah like that!" Alex exclaimed. "You've still got the suit we had custom made for you, right?"

"Yep," Trent beamed. "it's all ready for either my first Brownlow appearance or my wedding: whichever comes first."

"Well, get it out early because we're doing the full blues brothers catalogue on Saturday night!" Alex said, complete with jazz hands, his rooster tail shaking about comically.

Trent grinned. "I'm so glad you and mum insisted on me doing dance classes!" He said.

Alex just shrugged modestly. "Your mum worried you weren't enjoying it but I held firm," he said, "Learning to dance is the most important skill you'll ever learn."

After Trent's giggles had subsided (sometimes Alex worried Trent got too much from his mother and nothing from him), he asked shyly, "But Dad, couldn't blues at the pub just mean watching the Carlton vs Brisbane preliminary final? And interviewing your fellow blue?"

Alex wrinkled his nose. "That old crusty team? They've made it to the preliminary finals?" He asked, genuinely surprised.

"Yeah." Trent nodded earnestly.

"Wow," Alex mused, "maybe this would be too much." He stroked the rooster tail, thinking hard. "Maybe we could sing our blues brothers hits while the crowd on the TV is singing take me home country roads."

"I think anything to distract them from Carlton is a good thing," Trent commented.

Alex smiled, pleased. Maybe Trent had picked up something from him after all.
