As we stood at the entrance of the hall where the event was held, my heart started thumping faster as the sound of boisterous chatter fell on my ears.

I felt Aryan's grip on my hand tightening as if providing assurance. I glanced up at him and he was already looking at me.

"Stay by my side," He said, linking our fingers together in a firm clasp.

I nodded, and all the earlier apprehension seemed to be slipping off my body at his words as I relaxed.

My eyes widened at the sheen of the luxurious, chandelier-lit ballroom with high ceilings and opulent decor. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a warm, soft glow over the attendees. Laughter and the clinking of glasses could be heard throughout the expansive hall.

As my gaze swept through the space, I could recognize several renowned faces, from influential politicians and famous celebrities to wealthy businesspeople.

Several people greeted us, some made small talk, and some stayed longer. At a moment when we were left alone, Aryan whispered, coming closer to my ear, "You need a drink?"

"Desperately."

He tugged my hand to pull me towards the exceptionally decorated bar. "Two old fashioned. Make it fast," Aryan ordered the bartender. He then turned to me and said, "I will be there with Mr. Khanna. Need to talk about the auction bidding. Be back in a bit." He kissed the top of my head before sauntering away and I was left a confused mess, trying to figure out the meaning of these small touches and kisses.

I sighed, glancing around to observe the happenings. A live orchestra played a melodic overture, setting the tone for the evening. In one corner, a waterfall cascaded down a backdrop of lush greenery, creating a serene ambiance. Diamonds and pearls sparkled, enhancing the sense of luxury that enveloped the room.

And suddenly I saw a face in the crowd, approaching me and my mind seemed to stop functioning all of a sudden.

Oh god.

I cleared my throat, taking a generous sip of my whiskey. Was I dreaming? That would explain this. The jet-black fabric of the suit contrasted perfectly with his crisp, white dress shirt and the sleek black bowtie that adorned his neck. His chiseled jawline and strong, defined features gave him a timeless, classic appeal.

Was I fangirling and hyperventilating? Most definitely.

"If it isn't the most talked-about girl of tonight," He extended his hand toward me.

Am I going to faint?

My stomach was a zoo and my heart was on the verge of giving up.

I felt a hand pulling me towards them by circling an arm around my waist and I instantly calmed down, feeling comforted in the familiar arms of my roommate.
